PSU Tier List 2.1 - LEGACY

LienusLateTips

This is a legacy list, based on the PSU Tier List 2.0. It will rarely be updated. It is meant to be used as a ranking for legacy units only.

All information below is opinion based on fact. Units may be bumped down due to the following: missing protections, group regulation, bad electrical performance and exploding.

List is subject to change at any time, due to change in sources available.

Sleeve bearing fans will not be placed above Tier 3, and when bumped are marked with 3 gold asterisks. Group regulated units will not be placed above Tier 4, and when bumped are marked with 3 blue asterisks.

This is a refresh of the PSU Tier List by @STRMfrmXMN who is no longer logging in. Credit to them for the initial list as it existed on 24 October 2018 when this thread went live.

Where would the Mistel MX650 fall in this tier list and why exactly?

Also, how is the EVGA G2 any better than the Be Quiet Straight Power 11 or Bitfenix Whisper?

This is all VERY preliminary and is sourced directly from a old doc I have. Most of it will be fixed by tommorrow, since currently I'm sleepy and can't think right.

I wouldn't get anything below tier 2 simply because of fan design... and ya know... a PSU connects to literally everything in your PC

I've placed it in Tier 1b since it's very similar, performance speaking to the Focus Plus, which is the benchmark unit for that tier.

Ripple is similar (3.3V is a bit high a the Mistel though) and voltage reg from what I can tell with my EXTREMELY sleepy eyes is somewhat similar too.

I'll look again tomorrow to see if I'm just seeing things.

Tier 1a is exclusively for units which go above and beyond, so I've just bumped the G2 out.

The fall of a titan. God speed old tier list, I'll remember you well.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Be quiet Pure Power 10 400W + is higher than Corsair CX, yet the CX is better in most aspects. Is that purely because of its quietness?

Tier 6 (VS)

Tier 7 - Worst

I really do not like to mention Manufacturers Series after the Tier Number.

You should name it different.

For example:
Tier S: The best of the Best, Sir.

Tier A: High End

Tier B: Lower High End/Entry Gold

Tier C : Mid Range, good value

Tier D : Higher System Integrator Level

Tier E : Lower System Integrator Level

Tier F : MEGUMIN! Class. Not worth lookin at.

VERY initial, kinda like a beta at this point.

I'll change it to something different later on, but for now I'm putting the benchmark series after the name so people stop screaming at me.

If you are going to have the Leadex in the top tier then the CWT GPU variants (RMx, Whisper M, DQ-m) should also be there. Same with HX(i), RMi and AXi (low wattage and 1600w)

Just some bapo nerd from 'Straya

Where are the regular MasterWatt Makers?

Still working it out... as seen above and in the post as "EARLY VERSION: WIP"

I'll add a third location where it reads it doesn't replace the original yet.

IMO still better than the other new one which is way biased towards EVGA.

So anything tier 4 and below are the ones to avoid right?

Depends on the build. For a high-end gaming system, I'd stay in tier 1. For cheapo low-power flip builds, I practically vomit EVGA 500W 80+ white units, and have never had a problem.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Hypnotoad's RAM is dying, his motherboard is acting like the 6-year-old AsRock it is, a couple of SATA ports have just stopped working, but the RGB remains. The RGB always remains. Hypnotoad lives. All glory to the Hypnotoad.

Those and the Antec VP-450 power most of our office builds depending on which one's on sale that day.  We've only had one fail (an EVGA 500W), and that was simply from a bad power-on circuit.  The 500W also powers my gaming PC at home without any trouble, although it's not exactly my PSU of choice for that kind of use.

Tier 2 (GQ)

  • be Quiet! - Pure Power 10 400W+

Pure Power 10 under 400W is missing but it was Tier 5 in the previous list. What's the difference exactly? Just checked the prices and 400W is 50% more expensive than 300W. Worth paying to be safe even for office PCs with like 200W consumption?
