CRASH on Dota 2, work fine with benchmark

vyneta

Hi,

I am helping my brother with his old rig. Below are the specs:

Intel Q9400

ASUS DUAL-RX460-O2G

4x2GB RAM DDR2 800Mhz

Asus P5Q-PRO motherboard

700Watt PSU (dont know the brand)

Kingston A400 240GB

I did not OC anything from this rig, but it crahses wheneven I open Dota 2, but works perfectly fine when I run 3DMark Fire Strike and CINEBENCH OpenGL.

Below are the changes I made when upgrading his PC.

- I replaced the motherboard because the old one broke, I bought the exact same model which P5Q-PRO (second hand)

- I upgraded the BIOS from v1104 07/31/08 to v2102 02/23/09, because it wont boot windows if I plug the RAM with Hynix chip

- His previous graphic card was Saphire Radeon HD 4890

- I did clean install the windows

- I installed the latest graphic driver from AMD's website

What should I check to troubleshoot this issue?

Thank you.

Since you already updated all drivers including the bios and did all the common stuff I think some hardware/software os causing the problem.
Dota 2 is in general pretty easy to run and does not need much of a rig unless you want it to be shiny..

Does the PC work in other games? that would be great to know

Suggestions that I would do right away.

Open case and deconnect and reconnect all cables for the PSU and GPU
Deconnect/Reconnect your ram and make sure all of them show up
Try running other games (not just benchmarks)
Turn off that amd colour thingy.. powercolour?

Declock your GPU.

If none of those helps I would post a dxdiag in the dota 2 technical forum.
I do think it could be either a problem with the GPU or PSU those are often the first things to die atleast for me.
