Asus Motherboard Code 79

Cereal5

Hey LTT,

So earlier this evening I uninstalled my display drivers through windows uninstaller  with the GPU disabled. I normally would be in safe mode and using DDU, but I watched a video with a similar problem I had been having (not seeing NVIDIA control panel) on Jayztwocents and he did it that way, and I’ve tried every other way to uninstall/install the graphics driver under the sun to fix it, with no luck. So I decided to try that, and after rebooting, the computer got stuck on MoBo code 79 (X99 platform, specs in description).

The only LED on (besides power and reset) is the VGA LED (my GPU is currently removed cause I couldn’t tell for sure what LED it was). When it reaches this code, the chassis fans turn off, but the CPU fans do not. The chassis fans do however start and stop occasionally, and sometimes turn on for extended times while on this code. I have already tried clearing CMOS, but that’s it so far.

Any ideas? This is X99 so there’s no integrated graphics to try booting on...

Update: I reflashed the BIOS and now I’m stuck one code before, which is 68, something about PCIe support, and the VGA LED is still lit. I tried moving the GPU slot, a new GPU that I know works, and changing which plug the 8 power cables were plugged into. Nothing. I’m trying another reflash hoping that will work cause... I don’t know. I’m out of ideas.

edit: no luck. I’ll keep researching and hope I get some responses:) otherwise I might just go buy an 8700K and a new MoBo cause I was gonna upgrade at some point anyways

Well, almost all of the solutions I find end with RMAing the board or CPU, and I don’t have the receipt for whatever reason, and I definitely don’t want to buy a new board only for it to be the CPU, or vice versus. I also don’t really want to spend $150+ (I think my board was about $200 new) on another X99 board or CPU, cause they’re starting to age. So, it looks like I’ll be headed to micro center in the morning before work (read: in 2 hours because I haven’t slept yet and work in 6 hours so I have to do both in that time, and micro center is an hour away).
