Returning to 30fps.. How bad is it?

WeedIsMySin

So, i heard many PC gamers say they simply CANNOT play a 30fps game. I recently got into PC gaming about 6 months ago. I havent touched a console since i got my PC, so i think by now i must be usesd to 60fps Even though i was a console gamer all my life and was never bothered by 30fps gaming. So how bad is the transition from PC to console? Asking because im going to play RDR 2 on PS4 PRO.

If any of you were in this situation, how bad was it returning to a console?

Is ps4 pro still so shit?

Consoles usually use quite a lot of motion blurr iirc so it'll trick you into feeling smother. Shouldn't be too bad for a game like that.

To some people it's no big deal, but I grew up knowing the difference very clearly. I had consoles and my friends had PCs, and I just craved that buttery framerate. It's literally twice as smooth, obviously. But again, if you aren't sensitive to it and get easily immersed, 30 fps is not noticeable, hence the rumor that still exists that the human eye can only see 24 fps.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I have a PS4 Slim that I game on pretty often now, since I sold most of the parts from my old rig.

30 FPS does not bother me in the slightest so long as it's a consistent 30 FPS. I don't play multiplayer games on consoles so anything about reaction times or latency are non-factors for me.

Playing Forza Horizon 4 at 30fps felt fine as long as I turned motion blur to the highest setting, but as soon as I turned it to 60fps everything in the distance looked super blurry. With low or no motion blur, 60fps still looked way better.

Personally I think 30 fps on consoles is not super bad, because you don't use a mouse, which a mouse allows for much faster movement which can be kinda jarring at 30fps

Depends on the Game and Situation.

Usually its not an issue at all and runs well, for example God of War, Spider-Man and other Exclusives.

For some games you'd want 60fps because they are just that fast (Forza Horizon), for others like Dragon Quest XI its irrelevant.

I can't play at 30fps anymore. It's gotten to the point where even movies, which have motion blur to smooth them out, look a bit stuttery. I'm sure that if I stopped playing 60fps+ for awhile I'd adjust to it, but as it is I hate it.

Like people have eluded to, as long as it's a stable framerate it won't bother me or lessen my experience. It's better to have that, rather than an inconsistent framerate but with higher peak fps.

30fps isn't like VR, where it can give certain people motion sickness...for the vast majority of cases, people who refuse to play anything below 60fps are just being PCMR asshats.

As long as its locked then perfectly fine.  The only time I noticed anything bad was Breath of the Wild on the Wii U.  Parts of it were downright unplayable.

A good fixed 30 frame-rate doesn't bother me too much.

Only if you always play at a locked 60 fps.

Depends on the games you play and the fps at which you play them at. I'm used to 90-144 fps so when I play my Xbox One S at 30-60 fps, the difference is night and day and quite hysterical. The input lag on console is a bit ridiculous as well. You notice it and have to adjust to it. The fps on the other hand is not exactly as forgiving. 30 fps is just pure lag. Sluggish. Unsmooth. Third person shooters as just as bad as first person shooters. Some people are so used to the 30 fps though, it's already comfortable for them. Where console shines is graphics, period. They can be quite beautiful. Laggy as hell, but beautiful. So an open world game like RDR2 should be a beautiful experience on console. Just don't expect the shooting aspect of combat to be. Except for maybe when deadeye comes into play.

Well, RDR2 is mixed.

Because you have to hunt to get more Health.

And the realism is kinda in the way because you don't have an option to deactivate the animations (yet)...

Its more or less an offline MMORPG from the way it works...

you're always going to notice it. The higher the framerate you play at the more noticeable it'll be obviously. I went from 144fps to 75fps and it was jarring at first but I got completely used to it in three days i'm assuming 60 to 30 would be a similar if not a more severe transition.

PCMR is pretty toxic. Just like everything it feels like. Its more Us vs Them.

RDR 2 plays nicely on PS4 Pro and am enjoying it. The game itself is slow and made to feel more realistic. Even so 30fps in combat is nice. I play PC Games on a 144hz monitor and overall the best games ive played this year where all at 30fps. Spiderman, GOW and RDR2.
