Worried about CPU temps

Hey guys I was wondering about my CPU temps and wanted to ask here before going about on my own. I just finished my new computer and I have an i7 8700 with a Corsair H115I Pro AIO cooler. While gaming I was also monitoring temps and noticed my CPU temps as high as 85 Celcius. But it isn’t a steady 85, it would spike up to 85 then drop down to 75 then sit at 80 for a little while then spike back up to 85 then drop to 65 for a little while before spiking again. Any suggestions or tips I should try to figure this out? Or is this normal? (My first full build so I am unsure of allot of things)

I think the TJ MAXX (maximum allowed temperature) for that CPU is 100c, so that's not a dangerous temperature for the CPU.

Whether that's a high temp for that cooler, I'm not entirely sure since I've never watched a review for the cooler.

Though for a 280mm AIO that does sound quite high.

first, i'd go into to bios and make sure your pump is running at 100%

If that doesn't help, reseat the AIO on the cpu, and tighten as much as you can by hand. Doesn't have to be overly tight, just firm tightness

that's normal.

dont panic

just do your game

If you really want to make the temp look better, just de-lid it as @KarathKasun say or just change your cooler

It should be at whatever they come at stock, I don’t have much in terms of changing that because it’s not the k series right?

voltage is unlocked on all desktop CPUs and control on it depends on motherboards. Pretty much all but prebuilts let you control that. Quite often stock voltages are wayyy higher than they need to be, so you should definitely try undervolting.

we are on the same boat, my 8700k also seems higher temps than everyone elses. even after a repaste. Maybe you are either in spring where you live or room heater is high.

voltage mean much more to temperature than clock speed (Which will reach 4.3 to 4.6GHz under load on the 8700 thanks to turbo boost)

Looked at the wrong numbers My bad, I’m at 1.040 v core cpu voltage at 3.2 GHz

You might also want to double check and see if your aio is working properly. I just recently bought an h100i v2 and it was acting much the same way. Thankfull I had a second one to compare it too and I found it it was defective. I was able to send it back to amazon for a replacement and now it works fine.

Reseated cooler and adjusted voltage and now I’m running at about 65! Thanks everyone!
