Nonsense, a 64 bit install doesn't give more precision, the only thing the precision depends on what variable type is used in the programming language.(C++ I presume)

64bit is there if you want to have more then 4GB ram in your system and you want a program to be able to use more then 2GB.(a 32bit program is limited to 2GB ram)

There is no reason for an office pc to install 32 bit windows, EVERY modern CPU supports 64 bit, even my $30 Intel TV box does.

I disagree. My computer I game on only have 6gb ram, never found it to be to little.

People complaining about the apparent lack of RAM are missing two points.

 

1. This is not a massively powered multitasking beast. It’s an ultrabook, designed for web browsing and documents.

 

2. Just because your PC uses 4GB of RAM doing X doesn’t mean you actually need 4GB to do that. Your PCs have significantly more than 4GB so your RAM garbage collection won’t be as aggressive as it does not need to, heck on my 32GB XPS I use almost 8GB with just Chrome open after a bit of browsing.

This machine isn't meant for running a ton of apps. Its a portable thing. I agree, the price is too high, but its not too bad for what its intended for.

 

My computer just has 6gb ram, 2 gen i3, and r9 280 (now r9 290), and ran games and everything fine.

That's the point, it doesn't have enough memory for that, my $150 notebook has 4GB ram, and windows itself uses 1.5GB, and the rest is for Firefox and word. But Firefox eats through ram pretty quick too, not as fast as Chrome though. And so can 2 word documents and a powerpoint.

True, partly, chrome and windows probably have things in place to use that remove more things from memory when you have less memory, but not every program does, or every word editor or video player. Windows consumes more ram on my PC then on my laptop too.

I know, that's what I said, it's terrible for what it's intended for, because if I wanted to browse the web, I'd buy a chromebook or an Android tablet, the only reason for people to go windows is because of the desktop apps.

Uhhh negative there roger. They don't have 8 core CPUs, 6gbs of RAM, and 4000mah batteries yet it's the fastest phone on the market. Take a look at final cut pro x performance compared to Adobe Premiere.

I am comparing final cut to premiere on the same hardware. One is written by Apple and due to it's closed ecosystem they know exactly what hardware will be using it. Premiere has to be written to work on a very broad range of hardware. You can't argue this as it's a fact. Apple optimizes its software much better due to the fact it's a closed ecosystem. This is a large selling point and negative at the same time

Not true, just like the apple video editor(forgot it's name).

You write an app to run on an OS, not on a specific hardware set.(sometimes not even for an OS)

e.g.: If I write a game, I write it using OpenGL, not by directly accessing the GPU. That means it can be run on any hardware with OpenGL(Macos, Linux, Windows, Android etc.). If I would write the application by directly accesing the GPU, it would only work with that GPU, and if I'd do that, it'd be like returning to the DOS age when there was no DirectX and OpenGL.

The performance of the app depends completely on how the app is written, and that is the same on both MacOS and Windows.

Not true, there are too many apple platforms to optimize for apple only products. And, remember that you can run OSX on normal PC's with NVidia GPU's, that makes the ecosystem not closed at all.(About as open as Windows) Sure, apple writes the apps for their own hardware, but the apps still work on other platforms, so they can't be that well optimized.
