Laptop cooling solutions?

TokiToki

I have a laptop from MSI ( MSI GE72Mvr) which under load reached around 92C combined temp on CPU and GPU.

Im curious as to what cooling options i really have on a laptop, my thoughts are: cooling pad (though hear its low cooling yield), Liquid metal maybe (hear it can be dangerous though if it moves alot?), replacing the Defult cooling paste, though that will void warranty, or just leave it as its within normal laptop temps?

Thanks for advice in advance!

Start with cleaning in the inside of the laptop and replacing the cooling paste. If your laptop is still under warranty and you don't want to lose your warranty, you might want to consider just sending it in to MSI to take a look at it.

I dont care much about the warranty i was mainly just seeing if it was even worth sending it off to MSI as they might just reset it and send it back which is a real waste of time for me due to the 2 week turn around of MSi repairs.

They had "made their own" with blowiematrons, yeah, but they based theirs off of a unit they reviewed and worked okay.

Sounds so Jank xD i think i know what one you are talking about, I was looking for a more logical solution, but i might consider that if i had enough power to do so, i mean if i also didnt care about my laptop Levitating or the sound of the harrier jet in the room xD

Just clean the laptop and replace the thermal paste. You'll be fine.

My laptop isnt dirty enough to take ip apart, i have it in a clean office room that i hardly think will contribute much in terms of dust build up, its elevated and also only a few months old (6months) thermal paste i agree with, i might change it if i dont hear anything positive back from MSI about the repairs journey. What paste do you think will be good, if not should i liquid metal it? i dont know the full risks associated.

I hear that there is only so much volumetric flow rate of air that the fans can achieve, its not actually helping the cooling as the fan inside cant push out any more air, its just pointless really... isnt it?

Depends on a few factors, check the video.  They showed as high as a 7 degree drop in temps on bezel, gpu, and cpu.  As I said originally, they worked "Okay".

Surly with a 6month old gaming laptop undervolting would be kinda not worth it, i also find dong that provides little heat loss to the performance lost? in laptops anyway. I also dont think my CPU is unlocked to allow me to do anything noticeable

You don’t need an unlocked CPU. You also won’t lose performance.

I have the 7700H in my ASUS GL502 undervolted by -105mV. It still runs warm but stays in the high 70s to low 80s most of the time now.

I found this, it seems to be legits so ill follow this, ill benchmark for baseline then redo after undervoltage and see if it makes a difference, Ill let you know.

Yeah, follow the instructions.

You’ll have to monitor stability, so if it crashes, bump the voltage up by a notch from the last undervolted setting
