To me, Apple has always been one of those brands up until the past about 2 years where, when you buy an Apple product, it just works. When you use an Apple product, it just works. It won't freeze up or mess up in system lethal ways and it's really user friendly. 
I'm not an Apple fanboy, I use 2 PCs and a Chromebook, but I feel Apple has just been one of those brands. Recently Apple has just been mess up after mess up except for few products. Macbook I9, too hot. iPhone 7 no headphone jack, burned people. iPhone Xs Max won't charge when idling. Maybe Apple just hasn't been doing what they used to do like sending out people to just test products in every day use.

People like apple products because they're familiar with them, moving over to android may be too jarring for some.

I'm in no way on apples side, theyve been showing some crappy practices lately (getting rid of the adapter from new iphones and iphone 8's)

Yeah i'm not an Apple fanboy, but depending how the next year or two goes I might just buy into the ecosystem when I an afford. I put heavy things onto PCs when I get into my own flow of programs and working.

with apple devices almost requiring an entire apple ecosystem to support them , yes , they tend to have reliability issues and flat out dumb issues that shouldn't exist.

universal devices like linux/windows pcs and android phones don't require an ecosystem of similar devices or cloud services to support them and are designed to be stand alone nomad devices tend to be far more reliable.

the situation with apple always seems to be the most basic , most simple problems ever that were solved years ago by universal devices. I remember the nightmare I had trying to figure out how to incorporate an ipad 2 into a pc environment and it was horrible. Or the nightmare of trying to get music off of an ipod. god what a mess.

While those phones were great, the iPhone that has held up the best and has had the same relative feature set of later iPhones, the iPhone 6s/Plus are and were the best iPhones to date. They have all the performance they need to be relevant in 2018, run the latest software and will for at least another 2 years, and have the same basic hardware features.

The 13" models are stronger than they have ever been since their inception. Quad Core 13" MacBooks did not exist until the 2018 refresh. They are also equipped with Intel Iris graphics which are a big step up compared to other 13" laptops. 

 

If Apple wanted a dGPU in the 13" models they would have to dump a significant amount of battery life which kills the selling point of the 13" which is to be a small and portable.

If you look at Apple's complete history financially they are doing better than ever but they are becoming a fashion statement rather than a technology company. Apple's software is much improved from the old days. As many things weren't cross compatible or simply didn't have a counterpart. But Apple computers used to be customizable and Apple even sold things like a MS DOS compatibility card to add to your mac. iTunes was revolutionary and now has become nothing special. Apple used to have great products like routers and servers now that's all gone. Things like the A12 are incredible but they are a very different company than what they were founded from. Charging more for less because they can sell the name. There is no reason a phone can't have a headphone jack. There is no reason it can't be 10mm thicker to support a larger battery. There is no reason other than to combat 3rd party repairs to sue anyone who posts and apple schematic. It's no longer tinker with my tech it's disposable and expsensive

Yeah quad cores were a huge step up for Macbooks. The thing is the GPU in the new 13 inches do worse than lets say the XPS that does about 25-30% better on theoretically worse integrated graphics. Other 13 inch laptops with the MX150 do about 3x as good in games than the MBP 13 on integrated graphics. An MX150 comes in two variants one being 10w TDP and the other 25w TDP which could also help to preserve battery

Honestly, these aluminum MacBook pros have always been way too hot. I remember almost 10 years ago when brother was playing Civilization IV on his MacBook and you could fry on egg on it. Do anything but browse the web or use Word and your laptop turns into a furnace. 

 

I also think that iPhones are awesome. But people really overestimate the 6S. I don’t end up using the headphone jack as much as I thought I would and using a dongle doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I just leave the dongle on my earphones. 

 

I am currently using the iPhone 7. And compared to the 6S the haptics and speakers are so much better. 

 

Honestly, get an iPhone 6S or anything newer and you’ll be more than happy. Unless you’re some kind of phone tinkerer and you want to install custom ROMs or run emulators.

(The Apple Store wasn't a big thing yet in my city at the time, it had just opened a year prior in 2008, so there were plenty of people who had bought their Apple devices at our store with our extended warranty, hence why they came to us instead of the "geniuses")
