Possible bottleneck?

I have a Predator Helios 300 with:

i7-8750H 2,20Ghz (4,10Ghz boost)

GTX 1060 6GB

No matter what game i play the gpu won't be utilized to 100%. Is my cpu bottlenecking my system or is something wrong? My gpu hits voltege limit and power limit in most games, is that the problem?

For example, it is estimated that i get 110+fps in battlefiled 1 but i only get 70fps. And in overwatch i am constantly hitting voltege limit and power limit.

no, these limits limit your frequency, not core usage

Try 1080p ultra settings in the most GPU demanding game. If the core usage do get to 95%+, then you are being bottlenecked by the CPU (maybe overheating causing thermal throttling?). Otherwise, you've got other problems.

install msi afterburner if you havent already, set up monitoring to monitor your CPU and GPU usage, load up a game. see if the CPU sits at 100% while the GPU sits at 50%, then your GPU is being bottlenecked. OR you have vsync on/your framerate capped.

In battlefild 1 i get around 80fps on low and 70fps on ultra. I don't care about the visuals that much, i just want high framerate. What do i need to do to get that?

that small fps difference in a game is demanding is clearly a CPU bottleneck. Use Hwinfo's sensor-only mode to check the CPU temps first.

I am using msi afterburner, my cpu usage is at 50% on low and 60% on ultra. But i don't think battlefiled uses 6 cores, so it's a bit misleading i think.

you can view each individual core in MSI afterburner.

How can a i7-8750H be a bottleneck, you can't get much better at fair price?

thermal throttling can slow the 8750H down. A lot if the laptop's cooling sucks.

83C max temp after some games in low settings?

Yes, but it gets to that temp on ultra as well.

that's very high CPU usage (they dont all pin to 90%+ because of bad hyperthreading support). Try clear some of the background tasks since an 8750H at 3.9GHz in games shouldnt be suffering from that..

Yup, CPU bottleneck. The clock speed is high so I dont think it's throttling, should be background processes.

The efficiency of AMD CPUs is just not there. Same goes to Intel, but this is due to no architecture improvement.
