My bad time with the New 2DS XL

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

NOTE: I have a Nintendo refurb that I got as a special deal. Don't pay full price for a new one at all. Amazon is having a sale on the SNES New 3DS XL that brings it to the same price as a N2DSXL. The aforementioned NEW N3DSXL is the same price as a refurb N3DSXL as well. (There is no charger, though. You can find a refurbished one from Nintendo for $5.)

Anyways, on Thursday, I received the New 2DS XL when my 3DS XL crapped out. For $80 I could have it repaired or get a New 2DS XL refurb (normally $125.) When I received it, I had high hopes. But those hopes were instantly shot down. First off, the stylus was very short. I knew this and purchased a telescopic stylus from the old 3DS. It didn't fit right. Then, when playing Face Raiders, the camera location made the game much more frustrating. The sound system was atrocious as well. The bottom half of the unit vibrated when music was played, and the speakers were quiet. Also, the sysem is not durable at all due to the thin top screen. It seems a small drop will destroy the top display. The cover on the cartridge slot, while preventing stupid pranks, makes changing games out a hustle (which I do a lot.) Also, once I lost the ability to use 3D, I really missed it. (This is a subjective issue, though.)

Needles to say, I'm trying to return it (Nintendo said they are backed up so it will be a few days before I know if I can.) I found a small New 3DS refurb $115 at gamestop ($10 less than the normal N2DSXL refurb price), and I will be replacing it with that.

I've got a New 3DS XL, also a refurb. But yeah, the 2DS line is not great.

The 2DS family of systems all have a mono speaker instead of the regular 3ds's all having dual stereo speakers so that explains the sound part.  While 2DS's were great for when they released at the price point they did, with the aging library now I would just get a 3DS XL refurbed or used.

Hmmm interesting I could have sworn hearing that the 2DS had a mono speaker but that could have been the original model

The New 3DS/XL have face tracking 3D. I don't know if it fixes the headache problem, though.

Oh, ok. I get headaches from the old 3DS, so I hope the New 3DS fixes it. I don't remember movies causing me problems, though.
