The Alpha and Note 4 lacked the gasket on their battery doors because they found out that if the phone was dropped without a case, the cover would pop open. So if it was dropped into a wet area, the water resistance is nullified

it's one thing to drop the phone in a poodle and another to drop it in a pool.

I don't think that was the reason why the Note 4 and Alpha lacked the rating, unless you have some statements from samsung confirming it

Seen a couple of S5 and S5 Actives getting water-logged when dropped into a puddle.

 

Samsung obviously wouldn't confirm it but it does seem plausible. The metal frame alone wouldn't cause a phone to lose its IP rating.

 

I'm not knocking the removable back design. I still miss it to this day. It's just that you ought to be as careful with an IP rated phone as any other.

 

Oh yeah, there are some USB-C phones that are USB3 capable. They're very rare though

You can, Lineage OS 15.1 exists for the M7 which is Oreo based. 16 exists for the M8 which is Pie based.

This is no surprise to the Vive VR community, HTC have been running things into the ground and burning bridges for quite a while now. Everyone dreads having to deal with them for warranty repairs.

They used to be better than Xiaomi/Huawei and on par with Samsung/OnePlus devices, now they are nothing, they didnt adapt so now they are going to die as a company, like even now they are doing exactly nothing to avoid their fate, they could still adopt the chinese style marketing where they hold no stock sell everything and make little profit but instead make new products with the revenue they have. They are just milking the dry tits of HTC brand until there is no more and then shutdown.

The most durable phone I've ever had was the HTC Evo 3D. The amount of times I dropped that phone without a case I'm surprised it's still in one piece! Plus, the fact that I could record a video in 3D then watch it back on the TV was cool back in the day. 

In fact, the only reason I stopped using that phone was because I knocked it off the table when it was on charge and the charger snapped inside the port

I was one of the very few people in my school who had a M7 and a HD2

 

 

Their designs hasn't bee spectacular these days and the price isn't competitive even against other Taiwanese phone manufacturers.

Main HTC's problem is total clusterfuck with their models and naming conventions. You literally have no idea what you're looking at unless you specifically check the specs.

 

I remember back in the day when they had just HTC Desire and everyone had one of those.

If you ask me, things started going downhill right after the M7.

 

The M7 was nice because it had a really premium look and feel to it, especially compared to the Galaxy S4. The move to larger pixels in the camera, plus OIS was a really bold and in some ways a good move, and the dual front facing speakers were a really good unique selling point.

Then the M8 came out and they basically just changed the SoC, and for some reason removed the OIS making the camera worse than the previous model. I mean, check out this video and you can see how big the difference was.

 

Then they started putting previous-gen SoCs in their phones. The HTC Max came out with a Snapdragon 600 SoC when other phones on the market like the Note 3, LG G2 and Nexus 5 were all shipping with Snapdragon 800 chips.

I was on HTC for the longest time (HTC Inspire, M7, M9) but when they took the headphone jack off the U11 and the dual front facing speakers I jumped ship.

If I recall the 810 used to overheat, could have been a factor maybe?

The One Max came out in the later part of 2013, when the first batches of phones powered by the Snapdragon 800 first came to market. 

 

It wouldn't be until 2015 for the first market with the 810 to come to market.
