ROG STRIX X470-F difficulties

Hello guys,

 

As the title suggests - I've just finished building my first system (huzzah) but I've noticed two things

 

1. my 3000 MHz RAM (2x8Gb Corsair LPX) is identified as being at 2133MHz by the BIOS and subsequently the rest of the machine (task manager and such). I went on the AI and set on the D.C.O.P. and it now identifies my RAM at being at 3000 MHz but then at the same time:

 

2. I used EZ tuning and set it for gaming/media making or whatever it's called and it only boosts my CPU to 3.8GHz. On running the cpu.benchmark test it identifies my base clock as 3.8GHz and the turbo at 3.6GHz (WTF). I've seen other people being able to hit 4.0GHz and for some reason I can't seem to hit that.

 

Any suggestions?

I thought about updating the BIOS for the first issue but I've read that you should only do it if you need to and it may brick or damage the board? I don't know I'm relatively new at this.

they've touched the BIOS setting and overclocked their CPU.

Yeah but I was wondering if I could have an indication as to how to do this on this motherboard. I've tried Google-ing but I find the BIOS a bit confusing as to where to set and up the voltages. Like I've stated before I am relatively new at this.

I also had this screen and was worried about the voltage being above 1.4v at default. After using the EZ tuning it went down and now the CPU is clocked at 3.8GHz at 1.270v. 

 

I'm just looking for some clarification so I can understand what is going on and what I'm supposed to do.

I havent used Asus boards for a long time so I'm not sure if they still name things the same way. Voltage and multiplier settings should be in something called AI Tweaker or OC tuner or OC settings or Overclocking.

 

1.484V is wayyyy too high. Keep it on or below 1.4V no matter what.

Yeah I'll have to play with that but there are several voltages so I'm just trying to figure that out but thanks for the help.

The CPU voltages you see in BIOS shouldn't bother you.  Worry if that's what they are in Windows.  Also, if you let the system overclock itself it will not reach the same levels you might achieve doing it manually.  It will overclock to the low end and not at its highest possible speed.

Since it's Ryzen, you should see CPU core voltage (Vcore), CPU SOC voltage (Vsoc) and Memory voltage (Vmem or Vdimm). I'm talking about 1.4V max on Vcore. For Vsoc, leave it stock. You can raise it to 1.2V if it crashes, otherwise no need to touch it. Vmem should be changed by the XMP profile on your memory sticks, so you need not touch that either.

 

The stock voltage is so high because all the BIOS cares is to make sure it doesnt crash. More voltage prevents it from crashing, hence why it's so high.  EZ tuner applies profile written by people with an actual brain, that's why it starts much lower in comparison. It's still needlessly high for most CPUs, but since every CPU needs a different amount of voltage to be stable at stock frequencies, EZ tuner's profile is playing it safe.

 

You should update the BIOS after reverting settings to stock, to ensure the system doesnt crash when the BIOS is updating. It's not the end of the day for this motherboard since it has BIOS flashback to recover from such situation, but still.

@Jurrunio okay, I'll set it all to stock and apply the new BIOS update and try again to find some guides on OC this cpu on this mobo.
