See the thread for detail and don't forget to spread the word!!!

@leadeater you can now lock this one.

-Thanks

I didn't know WARP technology had been discovered yet? Look at these guys, I just gotta hope they don't have the stamina(anti-matter) to keep it up!

I think I need to invest in some of this GPU-based heating you guys have got going on, I've only got the 1070 running in my flat and it doesn't put out that much heat and my only cpu that puts out some warmth is the 8600k.

What's folding like with overclocked GPU's, I saw a few people saying not good but other's seem to be saying it's alright. I'm running with everything I can now and just can't quite break the million PPD barrier so want to edge every last little bit out of what I've got to see if I can get there. I've got a profile that's stable for gaming that pushes the clocks from 1860mhz to 2062mhz and the memory clock from 3802mhz to 4184mhz, do you think this would work for folding?

(Oops initially posted this in the wrong place haha)

I've got one final trick up my sleeve, I've got an awesome, all conquering 8600GS GPU I can install, might get me an extra 10 PPD ?

I mean... Might as well just try it. It will usually fail a WU in the first 5 minutes or so I tend to stay to 2050 and below but that just might be my cards.

IMO it's better to power limit them, as the reduction in heat generated and electricity used is large in comparison to the small drop in PPD. Something like a 30% drop in power results in only a 10% drop in performance (PPD) for me.

But, I guess if your intention is to convert electricity in to heat, then overclocking can help in that regard, and give you a little boost to your average PPD as well.

The GPU finishes it's currently WU in about half an hour so I'll let that one finish and then see how it goes with the overclock. I'm not too bothered by the extra heat at the moment if it gets me a few extra PPD, just trying to push it to let me get to the million mark. If it gets far too warm then I'll lower it back again after a day or so.

Just had a look on ebay UK... used 1070's seem to be going from around low £200's, although a bit late for the month could be one for longer term?

I know it will cost more when they eventually arrive, but I'd probably end up going for the mid range Turing for the additional power efficiency.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Mines at 1961MHz at 75% power limit sitting at 56°C with 28°C ambient room temp drawing 280W from the wall. If I bump that up to 2037MHz I'd be drawing about 350W+ and struggling to keep card under 65°C and room under 30°C

Yeah the main issue you'll run in to is instability, but as long as you are sensible with the OCs it should be fine... Failing a WU at 80% sucks though :D

I'll have a play around and see how it goes.

I've just got the beast that is the 8400 ready to add to the other rig, be interesting to see if it can even do anything :D

If it is an Nvidia card you need GTX400 series or higher for it to work.

Still using 1080Ti in my main gaming system. Probably wont change it until RTX takes off, and I'm not holding my breath for that. Been impressed with 2070 I got to test in another system though, but a bit spendy still. Not going to get multiples of that. Hypothetical 2060 if it comes in below £300 could be the sweet spot but that would be a bit of a gap between it and 2070.

My thinking is, I can get a 2080 for £620 or so. I can sell my EVGA hybrid cars for around the same price if not more...

The overall team has seen slight drop to 262million points of production over the last 24hours.

Please remember we have minimum participation requirements, these are 100k points, 15WUs, and 15 days of having activity over the course of the whole month.

Also, I just want to add that if we suspect you are purposefully just skimming the minimum requirements you may be disqualified. If we see you produce one WU per day for the last 15days for instance we may feel the need to investigate.

Thanks for everyone who is involved in this event,

Happy folding,

Ben.

Sorry about the shorter update people, sitting for a long time is quite painful for me atm, most of my replies come from my mobile atm and I cant really write an update on my phone.

Firstly, I can confirm that folding definitely  doesn't work on the old 8000 series GPU.

The overclock has been running on my 1070 for about 15 mins now and so far seems stable and is folding. Gonna suck though if it does get to about 80% and then decides to fail, I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

Happy to see I'm now up to 67th in the list, hoping I can get a little higher before the end of the month. I'm showing 0.9% of the daily total and 0.8% of the weekly total so hoping by the end of the month I might just about get into the top 50. Not bad going when my only gpu's are a 1070 and a 750ti (I'm ignoring the 21 cpu's I've got running but even then it's only a couple of decent ones and most are much older office desktop cpu's).

We’ve had a ten-fold increase in active users this month.

Keep on Folding!

Never underestimate the power of a man, who runs to live show with note in his hands and mumbles about giveaway ?

It used to be free beer that rallied the men for an army, now its a GPU giveaways. Well times move on....

I didn't know WARP technology had been discovered yet? Look at these guys, I just gotta hope they don't have the stamina(anti-matter) to keep it up!

Just having a look at my figures and it shows that I've got WU's for quite a few other teams as well. Any idea how this has happened? I've always put the LTT team details into the box when setting it up and never knowingly folded for anyone else

The no team specified one I can almost understand as there's been a couple of times when installing the client that it's run for a short period before I entered the details but we're talking a matter of minutes here.

Same UserName, Different person. That is why a passkey is useful as it allows Stanford to resolve these things. Note that only the LTT entry has any activity recently
