Hi there,

 

I'm folding with few resources but I wanted to participate this cool challenge...

 

Now I realize some WU can take several days to complete, so it will be difficult for me to achieve the "15 days of activity" even though I'm folding all day long with my CPU.

 

I know most of you guys are folding with several high-end GPUs so please don't laugh at me

 

Anyway. I don't know why I should even continue...

Also, there is less than 15 days left in the month so it's impossible to meet the 15 days requirement. Unless you have a time machine.

A better approach would be to reduce the number of cores on the CPU that fold. By default (with cores set to -1) the client will reserve one core/thread per GPU then use an even number of the remaining CPU cores/threads. In reality, however, it will not stick to specific threads but will distribute that load across all remaining threads.

 

so if you have an 8T CPU you could set the number of cores to 4 which should reduce the CPU load down to 50% for CPU folding and another thread for keeping the GPU fed.

 

As others have pointed out the “Light” “Medium” and “High” setting on the slider do not really directly affect the power consumed inasmuch as when to pause folding completely if it is competing with other tasks running at Idle or Normal priorities.

 

To reduce the amount of power consumed by the GPU the best method is to reduce the power limit on the GPU as low as it goes using MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision Pro. This will set a much smaller Power Limit for the GPU which will prevent the card from consuming power most.

Go to slot configuration, select the CPU slot, click edit. Then you change the -1 to 4.

I'm not folding with my CPU anyway, so whenever I try to configure the CPU slot, my folding gets changed to my CPU instead of my GPU.

For the CPU you'd need to wait until the current WU is complete or you WILL kill it by changing the number of cores. So you would need to:

1. Right-click on the CPU Slot and select "Finish" to finish the existing WU and then pause the CPU slot.
2. Wait for the Slot to finish and show "Ready" or "Paused"
3. Click on the Configure button.
4. Click the Slots Tab
5. Highlight the CPU Slot and click the Edit Button
6. Change the number of CPU threads to that desired.
7. Click OK to close the Slot Configuration.
8. Click Save to save the configuration
9. Right-click on the newly modified CPU slot and select "Fold" to restart the slot.

To change the Power Limit for the GPU you will need to use a tool such as MSI Afterburner of EVGA Precision Pro. In Afterburner you would:

1. Move the Power Limit slider as far to the left as possible
2. Click the "Apply" button
3. Optionally you might want to configure Afterburner to save the confguration and apply it when Windows starts

But I don't fold using my CPU, how am I meant to do this?

Sorry, I started writing the reply while at work and got distracted so I didnt notice your response to others.

 

Just tale a look at changing the GPU power limit as that will drastically reduce the power consumed but will not impact the points earned by nearly as much.

There appears to be a problem with the Standford Statistics Servers since about 13:30PST. The 15:00PST update showed about half the expected points for both users and the overall team and the 18:00PST update is showing no accumulated points for users or teams just the same static values from the 15:00PST update.

 

The Stanford Server Status Page is showing no Work or Assignment servers at all.

 

Stanford has been made aware of the issue and will hopefully begin working on it soon but we are close to the end of the business day at Stanford so a fix will likely not occur until tomorrow ... sometime.

It just needs an extended long weekend to chill with it’s family before exams.

 

Were still getting WUs assigned and the completed jobs are being accepted so we will likely just have the usual disproportionate jump in points once it’s fixed.

 

Kind of a perfect moment for someone with new hardware to get a jump on reclaiming their throne and staying under the radar ... just sayin’
