the mobile 1070 actually has more cuda cores than the desktop one so if you can keep it cool and keep the clocks up it will be faster.

I liquid metal'd my 7700k at LTX but I think I'm gonna leave my gl702 alone for now.

Just trying to not kill my cards lol, not letting any of them go above 70C. I know they can handle more easily but I'm just playing it safe

Definetly protect your hardware. Though the cards can handle it for long term folding your well advised to keep the max temperature in the low 70s

If you don’t have water cooling you might be constrained by your case airflow.  Try removing the side panel for a few minutes while watching the Temperatures.

i can run a 1070Ti and 1060 full throttle and the 1070 stays under 72 and the 1060 around 60C

Playing with overclocking my 1080ti, turned it back down to a known stable overclock.

Haven't had any trouble out of my other systems though. A mobile 1070, 2x 1050ti's, and a 1030 for the fun of it.

Surprisingly I get ~550000 ppd on my mobile 1070.

I’m folding on a mobile i5 on a laptop and found putting a couple of art erasers underneath helps it not thermal throttle as much as it can breathe better

Hm. I might have to dial my 1080 FE back a bit then lol. It's been pretty steady at 78-80C since the month started... Unfortunately the difference between stock speeds and max OC are only like 2-3C.

Looking at this stats we are going to be really close to producing a BILLION points this week. At the current pace we’ll be only 40-50 million points shy so if you have some headroom left try pushing it just a bit more!

Yeah it’s a balancing act.  I don’t like to run my fans above 70% on the GPU. I’m certain that under 80C sustained is probably OK but I usually fold for efficiency so I try to ensure my chassis have good airflow both at low power and cranked.

Have you tried taking your side panel off?

Well on my 1080 FE the fan is pegged at 100%. It's just enough for it to hold a steady 2000 MHz when I'm at my desk with the light on. My bed is across the room, so when I'm asleep, with the light off, and the temp turned down another degree or two it usually drops to 77C or so. I actually had my 1080 Ti overvolted as well, until I realized that even on stock voltage I can reach 2063 of the 2088 MHz I had while overvolted, so I figured I'd save some power there.

Psh have I tried. You should see my set up rn. No side panel, of course, a small like 150mm stand alone fan on my desk pointed right at the GPUs, a fan across the room by the air vent, and two in the room next to me blowing air into my room. If I were comfortable in a colder room I would set my thermostat lower as well

Throughout the day, when the solar panels are generating power, I have the system running at 2025-2037MHz with unlocked power limit and 100% fan speed. I can keep an eye on it and make sure temps are in order and everything is swimming along nicely. Then at night I switch the profile to one that is limited to 80% power limit that runs the card at around 1900MHz. Drops power usage from the wall by 70+W and I drop the fans down a bit so I can sleep.

In 3 days 8 hours I've pulled 25KW/h just from the PC :D My solar panels only do about 8-12KW/H per day (Just checked todays was 9.9KW/h), and obviously they're not going to do much over night (no battery storage). So all this folding is going to end up costing me a fair bit in electricity I think... At least there's a few cooler days under 30C expected for the next week so I won't have to run the air conditioner as well.

I'm glad I didn't end up running my HD7970 as well. It will use just as much power as my 1080ti and produce probably only 150k PPD.

In other news, the i5-4570 (I said 4460 last time but that was me miss-remembering what I bought) arrived last night. Now just waiting on RAM

Does slow wifi speeds affect the PPD?

I think it only needs the internet to send and receive the workloads. I could be wrong though.

True. I brought this up because I'm thinking of bringing an old computer online for folding but I don't want to run an ethernet cord to the basement so I might just buy a crappy wifi card or USB wifi adapter.

True. I brought this up because I'm thinking of bringing an old computer online for folding but I don't want to run an ethernet cord to the basement so I might just buy a crappy wifi card or USB wifi adapter.

Yeah internet is only needed for uploading/downloading WUs. You can fold a unit without internet

As long as you can get a link in the basement it will work. It may just be slower to down-load WUs and up-load the results but they will still get through. If it is really slow adjusting the "next-unit-percentage" in the Expert Config tab may help but, in general, the WUs upload and down-load times are neglible in comparison to the duration required for processing.

Power-line networks could also be a solution but they are more expensive but if you cant get a consistent WiFi connection might be an option

Does slow wifi speeds affect the PPD?

I think it only needs the internet to send and receive the workloads. I could be wrong though.

So long as you can download WU's and upload them the speed doesn't matter. If your speed is extremely slow you can adjust when it downloads the new work unit but as soon as the work unit is downloaded is when they start the clock on the bonus for finishing early so be careful with it if you are going to play with it.

I liquid metal'd my 7700k at LTX but I think I'm gonna leave my gl702 alone for now.

Might be worth it to try other tricks though if your not using it regularly like if the lid closing doesnt turn it off you can leave it upside down for better air flow or place it in front of a fan or something.

Hm. I might have to dial my 1080 FE back a bit then lol. It's been pretty steady at 78-80C since the month started... Unfortunately the difference between stock speeds and max OC are only like 2-3C.

Temps are one of those things that are really up to the user and what your comfortable with. I personally only have my fans cranked on my 1080ti just because it will boos higher. I used to fold on my bios modded 970s at 85+ C 24/7 with no issues but it is dangerous and can degrade your card over time my opinion is that I upgrade my main rig every other generation anyways at this point so the extra temp wont kill it for when I'm using it. (I did kill one of my 970s but that was because of too much voltage through the power delivery from my modded bios not just core temp). Up to you though.

hey quick question. for the participation badge do we have to mee all those requirements within the event time frame or is it sufficient if let's say I have the minimum amount of points and WUs contributed to the team already and only have to have 15days of runtime?

You need to meet all of them. But they were made to be fairly simple to reach. If you have any specific concerns you can pm me and I'll try to iron them out for you.

Now I have no hope of catching up to you. You're still going to struggle to maintain your position though, there's quite a few people pulling ~2mill ppd closing in on you.

Speaking of which, @Ben Quigley do you have todays update?

Yeah I'm not getting back into top 10. Just trying to stay top 15! :D

I think today's update was cancelled. Lets let the man have a break!

The total showed is for both systems. That single 1080Ti is only doing 1.3mil.
