[Build Log] Project TUF

Hello All,

 

Its time for a new project. This build will be air cooled to showcase the CoolerMaster Masterair MA410M Tuf edition cooler. This project is being sponsored by InWin, Coolermaster, and Arctic.

There wont be any case modding for this build as I want to keep everything with the tuf gaming theme. InWin has supplied the 101 Tuf edition chassis as well as their premium 650w psu gold rated. Arctic is also sending 6 of their bionix 120mm fans in red to help with this build. The CPU is not yet decided but will probably be a ryzen 5 1500x. The Graphics Card I will be using is the MSI 1050ti gaming 4gb card as I had it on hand and didn't want to buy a new card for this build. It was red and black as are most MSI cards so I modified it with a new paint job as well as a custom back plate. This build log is a work in progress to follow along if you want to see more and thank you.

The MSI card just wasn't fitting with the Tuf gaming theme, but its the only other card I had on hand so time to make it work

That is an unreal spec Case and GPU. it looks so cool!

 

I once owned the Asus Z170 Sabertooth TUF Mark 1 and I absolutely loved the look of that motherboard!

Thank you, really wish I could've put a 1060 or 1070 in it though. I still might before the build is over the way the used market is looking lol. If you like the way that motherboard looked just wait till you see this one

Update two

 

Motherboard- Asus Tuf B450-Plus Gaming.

 

I decided to go with the 450 over the 470 as there wasn't much difference in performance. Everything looked almost identical. The VRAM looks a bit weak on these boards ironically lol giving the TUF name I wish the board looked a little more tough but over all I really like the looks and cant wait to try it out.

Ok so I wanted to incorporate some red on the motherboard and while I loved the look of the IO shield I knew it could be better. The reason I wanted res on the motherboard was because the gpu has red in it as well as the fans Arctic is sending. Just trying to tie everything together as far as the color scheme. Sorry but all I have are cell phone pics but here is the steps I took to get the look I wanted. 

 

First I sand it down and wipe it down with alcohol then spray the base coat of yellow. Then I take black paint hold it far away and mist it to give it a speckled look which once the black top coat is applied it'll look roughed up to make it look.... Well tuf lol

 

 

Then I apply the decals I made for the designs I want to be yellow and then spray the next layer of red using the same technique with the black

 

 

Then apply the decals I want for the red parts, then apply the top coat of black 

 

 

Then once that is dry I carefully remove all the vinyl decals

 

 

Didn't really like how my logo came out so I printed a new one in white and placed over the one I had painted. Then I applied a few coats of clear. Pretty happy with the results

I was originally going to use the Ryzen 5 2600, or Ryzen 3 1300x in this build however neither have arrived yet and so being impatient I grabbed the 2600x off the shelf. Will probably swap it out later, or swap out the graphics card as the 2600x will be bottle necked by the 1050ti that's going in this build. Cooling the 2600x is the Coolermaster Masterair M410M pictured in earlier post. The memory is Teamgroups Team Force Vuclan Tuf edition ram 16gb @3200mhz. The fans are Arctic BioniX F120 case fans. The Build is pretty much completed and I will be taking final photos as soon as I find a nice location. Will be editing the video as soon as my main rig is back together, anyway hope you like the build and thanks for looking

This thing looks so good! It turned out great! Is there anywhere I can order these TUF branded parts? In particular the GPU backplate?

 

Also, I'm sure you have your reasoning but why is the GPU mounted in the second PCIe slot?

Thank you, and the parts I'm sure you could find on Amazon or maybe second hand through eBay. As for the backplate I made it. And the gpu is mounted on the second because of the cooler, it would fit but covered up the backplate lol. So it's really for looks not functionality

I found most of the parts here in Canada actually! I'm seriously considering doing my own 'TUF' build, That rig looks so cool!

 

And that totally makes sense, gotta show off that cool backplate.

 

My thoughts are to take the plastic cooler shroud off the Asus GTX 1060 Dual series and paint it yellow. Then get a custom Asus backplate4 from V1 tech.

If I end up doing it I will let you know, seriously this build is one of my favorites I've seen! Also, great video!

 

And yeah that plain white shroud is easy to work with. Should be very easy to paint.

Thank you so much! It was a really fun build and I wanted to do a Tuf Gaming build for quite some time. And yes the white shroud you have complete freedom of design, the msi 1050ti I was kind of limited, I do have a gtx 970, saphire rx580 and a gtx 1060 6gb Gigabyte gaming I could use but I went with the 1050ti
