GeForce Nvidia graphics driver 411.70 is not compatible with Windows 10 1803 September update?

KjellB

I just purchased a brand new GTX 1080 Ti and figured I'll reinstall Windows 10 with MediaCreationTool over a USB to get a fresh system state. As soon as it was ready I ran all Windows Updates and in the end after a couple of reboots I proceeded to manually install GeForce Nvidia graphics driver 411.70 (latest as of today) which prompted me with this error:

wmokrm8w5cp11.png

(The Standard NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows..)

Although my system is freshly installed and up to date according to Windows Update:

(Windows 10 -1803 / 17134.320)

Furthermore I read that some people had the same issue and solved it by disabling safe boot as well as signature verification:

bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

bcdedit /set testsigning on

bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on

This didn't work since the installer still failed with the same error, I even made sure my motherboard's BIOS are up to date and all system drivers with Driverbooster 6 (pro).

I enabled debug mode for Nvidia installer and generated these logs in C:\NvidiaLogging (pastebin):

(I had to split LOG.setup.exe into two files due to the post size limitation in pastebin).

Lastly, I was told that using GeForce Experience could be a way to circumvent the issue but I wish to install the graphics drivers manually. The graphics card device status is reporting as "This device is working properly."

(Current driver is 24.21.13.9836)

If this is any relevant to the issue, here are my computer's specifications:

Sorry if this post turned out to be long, my question would be: is there any way to bypass Nvidia installer system check with a launch parameter or an advanced option? I wish to install PhysX as well as latest graphics drivers with clean installation option. Thanks.

Your solution seems a bit to overkill for such an issue. I would simply try installing an older WHQL Nvidia driver first before fiddling with anything complicated (unless the new one includes support for a game you really really need).

Something wonky's going on with your system, I'd installed 411.70 on two of my rigs (GTX1080/i7 2600K/64bit Win10 Home 1803 and RTX2080 Ti/i7 3960X/64bit Win10 Pro 1803) without encountering the issue you had.

Just use GeForce experience.

Why? I believe nobody should be forced to use any program they don't wish to. I installed 411.70 on my GTX1080 rig without needing to.

Anyway, if installing GFE is a way to fully install the driver, then by all means agree to install GFE and the driver. OP can always uninstall GFE after successfully installing driver. I'd noobishly installed both driver and GFE in my RTX rig, I simply went to the Apps section of Windows CP and uninstalled GFE.

@KjellBPerhaps you ought to head on over to Guru3d, they have a GeForce driver section where you might get the answer you need.

Of course, I tried to install a older update to make sure that the latest version isn't faulty but I get the same error.

Are you using Windows 10 version 17134.320, I asked a couple of people and everyone with version lower than 17134.320 isn't facing this issue, I believe the September cumulative could be the issue?

I'm minimalistic, I wish to proceed without it ;)

How are Guru3D's drivers any different from Nvidias, are they safe to use?

You may be on to something with regards the the OS version, mine's 17134.285......

I'd suggested guru3d because they have a section on nVidia drivers and perhaps possible issues encountered and solutions, you might find your answer there. Also, the driver listed there are beta, hotfix and WHQL drivers from nVidia

I took a look at the drivers from Guru3D but the actual download is just mirroring to us.download.nvidia.com, I get the same error as in my OP sadly.

I highly appreciate all suggestions ;)

I am having same issue as OP.  OS Build is 17134.320 (same as OP) with a clean install of win 10 1803 for hardware upgrade of Motherboard, Ram, and CPU.

One thing I noticed is that after the OS install it did not have the Nvidia Drivers or Experience that normally auto install when I do an OS install.  Card is showing fine in Device Manager (same as OP).

I did try older versions of Nvidia with same issue.  I do not want to install Experience. I didn't try anything else as far as the safe mode suggestions.

edit:

installed experience
398.36 installed 5 nvidia programs (2x3d, experience, driver, & audio) no physx

let experience update to 411.70
did custom, no 3d for me and + to physx

uninstall experience
drivers, audio, and physx all there still with no issues.

I contacted NVIDIA driver department and was provided with a special driver version "DCH" (411.70) which solved the issue for me! I will edit the OP with the solution once I get a reply as to why this driver works and how to download it from the download center. From a quick glimpse on Google the DCH version is for Chinese(?) Windows 10, although I got mine from the Swedish Microsoft page https://www.microsoft.com/sv-se/software-download/windows10 and I used English as installation language, strange?

Here's the file: https://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/138341
