iPhone XS Not Charging

It seems that the new iPhone XS phones have a serious issue. 

When devices are plugged in when they are asleep, the iPhone is not detecting the lightning cable and therefore not charging. There are many people on the Apple forum experiencing the same issue

Lewis Hilsenteger, of Unbox Therapy fame is experiencing the problem on several of his iPhones, both the XS and the XS Max, but not all of them.

 

I wonder if this is indeed a software fault because I would have thought that if it was software, then it would affect all devices not just some of them

 

This is very bad for people who charge their phone overnight without checking to make sure their device is in fact charging

 

This is one of the main reasons why I refuse to buy a phone so soon after launch, I'd much rather get a last gen phone where all of the bugs have been fixed

This is generally kind of smart. Not just with phones, but with cars or other tech items too.

What I meant was that when the devices are asleep, as soon as you tap the screen to wake them up they start charging. I've changed the post to reflect this

Isn't charging a phone a basic thing?

I initially thought it was Apple's "USB Accessory" lock option but turns out it ONLY blocks data transfer and limits it to charging only. I've been having issues on my XS with the option disabled and I'm currently waiting for an official response from Apple. Hopefully it's not some hardware fault I'd go nuts if that was the case.

Clickbait. Unbox therapy is clickbait filler over dramatic spewing of a tiny problem blown up. The video could be 2 minutes and just say hey it doesn’t work here’s how and here’s what I have done to try and fix it

True, but on a premium item like this you should expect it to charge, then again their QC overlooked a watch not charging if the battery was dead.

On a phone this expensive and for such a basic function this is unacceptable as just a "bug in a new product"

Not all Apple Watches were effected by the charging bug. Why? Because it’s a software bug and is unpredictable. 

 

This is is a software bug, if it were hardware it would not stop/start occurring by waking the device. 

 

Apple will issue a patch and this will be fixed. The glory of iOS is you have the ability to push updates to users immediately. Unlike other operating systems. 

 

On an unrelated note my iPhone 6s Plus is a 2018 flagship now

Not only that but Apple has absolutely zero history of ignoring problems whatsoever or claiming users are actually at fault. Zero.

Tiny in the sense that it can easily be fixed within a week or less of a launch. A large one would be no fix until a product redesign.

Well.... Its more equivelent to a modern 300$ mid range phone. Which is still pretty good.

That is one of the bueatiful things about IOS. I am assuming you mean every other mobile operating system. Windows 10 is really good at shoving updates at people.

It could be. If Apple chooses to recognize it. They often choose not to until class action brings them to court.

The forum thread in question was created back on 24th. By that time it was already known issue, judging from responses of other people that left their comments.

I guess Apple is too busy with their forced beautifying to fix things of little importance like charging the damn thing.

Yeah, sure they can. So far the only one even close to being able to do that is Google and their phones are worse than Apples.
