I love EVGA and I have never owned one of their boards.  I very seriously thought about their Dark board on this build.  That the the only other board I would have bought.

 

I just pulled my motherboard tray (very cool feature) because my board is scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

That EVGA does look darn good too, and I love how they mounted the 24-pin and such at a logical angle for that optimal cable management.

I've been set on the Maximus XI Hero but the Dark does look like an intriguing board. I'm a hardcore fanboy of ASUS boards though, so it'll take a lot to get me to look elsewhere.

 

I assume the Dark has no RGB lighting?

It seems so, I'm not into RGB so that's not an issue to me, I'm worried though it seems it only has 2 DIMMs, and I'm not a huge fan of the FTW.

 

Might end up with Asus for my own build, maybe some deal on a second hand Asus ROG Maximus X Hero z370.

Not too crazy about the yellow accents on the board though. Probably going to stick with the tried and true ASUS board.

 

Might have to wait for holidays to do my build anyway tbh. I underestimated the prices when I budgeted for my build...

Mobo already got delivered.  Block hardware has been installed.  No CPU but with the block on there fit loosely I should be able to start bending tube.

I had time to attempt one run tonight...and I will be doing it again tomorrow...lol.  It would be functional, but I need a a couple mm longer lower straight and couple mm shorter upper straight.  I am using a 45* fitting at the radiator inlet to get it to clear between the lower 280mm radiator fans and the pump reservoir.

I think I figured out the rear outlet on the upper radiator...Only about $50 worth of fittings(rotary extension, dual rotary 90*, rotary 45*, rotary 90*)...lol...

My OCD could not allow the rear case fan not to match the other 7.  I also moved over the Trident Z RGB 3600c16, one of the SSDs, and the sleeved cables from the x299 rig...

You damn right lol that would have bugged the shit outta me too even if the screws are visible and not the same I had to order a box so that all of them matched.

I have my delided 7820x, and was making the switch to the pre-ordered a 99000k mostly because I am not a fan of my x299 motherboard.  I figured if I was going to change my motherboard, I would give the 9900k a try.  Now I am thinking about just buying a different x299 board and holding onto my 7820x for a minute and then snag one of the x299 chips coming out.  If I bought a different board it would probably be a Asus Rampage VI Extreme or an EVGA x299 Dark.

 

If anyone reading this would share what they would do, it may help me decide.

I am not really interested in moving to less cores.  If I leave x299 it will be for the 9900k.

I've decided to change this build to x299.  I am ordering either a Asus Rampage VI Apex or a EVGA x299 Dark.  These are the factors that pushed me there.

 

1) I already have a delidded 7820x

2) the new Skylake x-chips look fun

3) I game at 3440x1440, I am never really CPU limited

4) 9900k is not quite what I hoped for

5) x299 will age better than z390

 

Plus, I feel like this amount of work and money into the loop deserves HEDT.

The new chips are the same chips just with STIM, if you have a delided chip with liquid metal and no glue or better yet direct die/waterblock cooling you are already getting better performance than STIM.

That board is amazing but the lack of RGB can be a deal breaker for some lol, but for those people like myself there is a workaround Aquacomputer Farbwerk LED Controller USB | Bluetooth Version (53207)

Newegg.com has it too make sure its the model with the Bluetooth so you can use your phone. And just get RGB Y cables for more connection if needed. OCN55 for 5.5% off at performance-pcs.

Performance-PCs had the right one.  I went ahead and ordered that and the EVGA board.
