Gaming Laptop - Asus Scar I vs II / Dell G3, G5, G7

Hi!

I am currently looking for laptop, with parameters crucial for me: i7-8750H, PCIe 256 GB+, 16 GB RAM +, GTX 1060 (I'm not much of a gamer but I want to have the possibility and the gear that will serve a while).

After a deep (as for an amateur) research I narrowed my choice to:

Asus ROG Strix GL504GM Hero II

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Strix-GL504GM-Hero-II-i7-8750H-GTX-1060-FHD-Laptop-Review.326126.0.html

Asus ROG Strix GL703GM Scar Edition

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Strix-GL703GM-Scar-Edition-8750H-GTX-1060-FHD-120-Hz-Laptop-Review.309052.0.html

I also consider dell G3 (with 1050Ti, but for that I can invest for 32GB RAM and/or 512 HDD) and G5/ G7 with similar specifications.

Could you please advise between these product or perhaps offer alternatives?

I've read here that the ASUSes might have some issues with temperatures, but in mentioned reviews they don't say anything about it.

I would really appreciate your help!

Cheers

I'm buying from Poland. Budget around 1400-1600 Euro. Weight and battery are secondary priority for me so no frames.

Hi,

Below you have direct links to referred laptops - this store is most reliable and have best prices/biggest choice. Unfortunately they don't have EN version :).

1 PLN (Polish value) is ~0,24 Euro

Many thanks in advance!

1. MSI GE63/GE73 8RE

Note: GP63/GP73 is very similar but I don't think they have the same 120Hz TN option in your country

2. Asus GL504GM

Repaste highly recommended

3. Asus GL703GM

Repaste highly recommended

4. HP Omen 15 dc with 144Hz IPS

5. HP Omen 17 (2018) with 120Hz IPS

6. Dell G5 with UHD panel

Also consider barebones:

TongFang:

1. GI5CN6E (get from clevocenter)

2. GK5CN6Z (get from xtreem.pl, clevocenter.com or sklep.hyperbook.pl)

Thin bezel, under 2kg, under 2cm thickness

Clevo:

1. P751TM1-G (get delided CPU option from clevocenter)

Desktop CPU with unlocked CPUs

2. PA71EP6-G (get from clevocenter, hyperbook, dreammachines.pl)

With TB3, 2.5cm thickness, Gsync panel

Don't get the 1070 model, runs too hot

Thank you so much !

Is the order of list random or from the best to the worst choice ?:)

Also by repasting you mean replacing the paste on the processor? I don't know why but I'm leaning forward the ASUS however the processor issues worries me a bit. Or as a rather non extreme user I shouldn't be so much occupied ?

Much appreciated !

Yes. Asus uses really bad stock paste. Others as well, but definitely not that 'bad'. i7-8750H is a hot chip, therefore a repaste is highly recommended anyway

Hi there,

I'm still struggling with the decision. Unfortunately it turned out that I need to buy it with 0% interest installments - and I have just one service in Poland which provides that (with no artificial charge on the product itself).

Surprisingly, for the first time they have ASUS product, but in the version GL504GS - with 1070 card, link below.

But with this model, first of all I don't need so strong card, for which I need to pay extra ~300E, so I would prefer the spend the money on extra RAM and PCIe SSD in MSI models, which don't have it by default. Also I wanted to ask - the ASUS model doesn't have integrated Intel Graphic chipset, so it means it works all time at 1070 I guess - how it would influent working on the laptop by rather normal user (rare gamer)?

I would really appreciate your help again :)

Thanks,

Would you indicate me the difference between GP and GE?

And also, if I'm not mistaken GL504GM has less problem with hotness than GS?

Thanks!

Design and material used are slightly different. Some extra features like RGB

Cooling and 120Hz panel are the same. Input devices too.
