This is interesting... is nudity of any type illegal in those countries?  I assume so, otherwise this makes literally no sense.

Uncensored nudity (more specifically of the vagina and penis) is illegal in Japan (and presumably South Korea); it's probably outright illegal in the Middle Eastern and African countries, probably on grounds of pornography.

Germany has always been really freaking weird about how they rate content, so I don't know what's up with that.

well I don't know either, what's why I was asking.  I can understand that if normally this kind of thing isn't permitted in any other form (irl, pornography, etc.) then this comes as no surprise, I was just wondering if they maybe had taken an inappropriately strong reaction to this game for no reason.

No real surprise here. Most of these countries aren't known for being free and open minded about porn, especially uncensored porn.
 

I'm all for more adult games on Steam, but I fear there will be a lot of backlash from "concerned parents" (the kind who can't regulate what their kids view and buy online themselves and have to rely on others to do their jobs) and will push Steam to go back to not selling adult games.

Heck, the crazies are already coming out of the woodwork saying these games "objectify" women and are attempting to mix up the #MeToo movement into it, as if it was even relevant in the context of it's just a game, not reality. It's certainly not any worse than all those fake "forced"/blackmail porn videos being made out there, and lord knows there's plenty of those.

Makes one think with how much people, especially conservatives and third wave feminists, are against porn but some correlation (if not an outright proven link) has been found that easy access to internet porn has contributed to a reduction in violent sexual crimes in the US (not sure about outside the US). Addiction is always a possibility just like with anything that makes your brain feel happy. Moderation is the key.

 

I mean obviously people who don't have the mental or emotional capacity to tell what's reality from fantasy are going to get even more horny and apt to go out and commit sex crimes but honestly I feel that's the minority. Just like when a mass shooting occurs and people cite "violent video games" as the cause. Millions of people play violent video games and the vast majority are normal human beings living their lives.

 

Personally these types of games do nothing for me. I have no issues with getting some action IRL.

Even in Australia. All R rated on Foxtel's "World Movies" channel. Completely uncensored and with content that's more extreme.

I think it's a case of "Saving Private Ryan vs CoD: W@W". On the one hand, you have people saying that SPR (Saving Private Ryan) is a "historical reenactment" of a possible moment in history and should be viewable for all to see in all its gory detail. But since W@W is a fictional piece of historical media it must be held to a higher, or lower, standard to make its rating appropriate.

That's an interesting perspective, but I still disagree with doing that.  Like I said, every place has to decide for themselves what content they want and deem acceptable, but whatever they settle on, it should at least be consistent.  If they can't manage that, not only does it make them look bad, but it is going to annoy either the people who wanted that content, or think it should be banned, and most of all, it undermines the system and casts doubt on whether they should bother censoring anything at all.
