need help fixing grub

i installed Windows 10 next to an ubuntu install and now i can't boot grub anymore. it goes straight into Windows.

What do the partitions look like? Windows 10 probably overwrote grub. Go boot into a live disk and reinstall drub.

i already tried that, got an error: can't get canonical path of /cow

what command did you use? was everything mounted right?

wait now the error has changed. i'm using grub-install /dev/sda and now i'm getting an input/output error

is your system uefi or bios? What is the partition layout?

well it doesn't really matter. i just reinstalled ubuntu and now it's fine.
