Issues Exchanging SSD in my PC

Thank you for your time, first of all.

So my issue is thus: I am looking to upgrade my computers' storage capacity from my Samsung 231GB SSD to a Sandisk SSD Plus 1TB. As I type, both drives are connected to this computer.

My plan was to plug in the empty drive, and simply copy paste the contents of my current SSD over; however, my PC isn't even registering the presence of the new SSD. does anyone know of a reason this could be occurring?

I've tried to research potential issues, such as a possible incompatibility with my PSU(Which is an EVGA Supernova 550 G2 if that info is relevant) but could find no data on the subject. Please advise!

You have to format the SSD in order to use it.

It sounds like the ssd isn't formatted. Search create ans format hard disk partitions in windows and open the first thing that shows up. Your SSD *should* show up there, and then you can create a new partition there.

Are you talking about copy pasting through windows? Unfortunately, that wouldn't work because windows doesn't make some stuff like the registry visible. What you need to do is use a cloning utility like macrium reflect or paragon.

You have a Samsung drive, so download Samsung Magician.  It'll clone your old drive to your new drive.

 

To format, go into Disk Management in Windows, then right click the new drive and select Simple Volume.  Then do the Samsung Magician trick.

Follow up question:

 

Is there a methodology to tell what files are what size in your SSD? When I look through it it gives me file sizes very rarely.

What specific files are you talking about? Programs? Docs? Videos?
