I would go for Audi. I'm not a fan of the styling for Mercedes in the past few years. Though the Alfa Romeo Giulia is pretty breath taking. Every time I see one zoom past, I always turn around for a second look.

I will only accept the W204, W212, or the face lifted R Class from Mercedes. Not a fan of Mercedes' design as of late. Especially the interior with that glossy center console that will attract finger prints and the infotainment screen that juts out like a cancerous growth.

They're super nice. The S6 is pretty affordable now (the one with the Lambo derived V10), and the older ones are as well...though their maintenance issues make them a no go for me, sadly. Still won't stop me from importing a couple, and perhaps a RS6 Avant if I can find one in a couple years. *drool*

I still don't trust Alfa in terms of reliability The car is beautiful though. Other than the odd entry angle.

For iffy cars, I'm still Land Rover all day.

I mean, reliability in luxury market is pretty much below average apart from Lexus. Someone on this forum is even trying to convince me not to fall in love and retire my base model Civic for a 4ish year old A4. 17 grand, though the millage is pretty high. My Civic is only up to 165k for a roughly 12 year old car. That A4 already has 135k on the clock.

For me it really depends on what size and type of vehicle.  I just got a BMW, but if I was going top end, an S-class would be my first choice right now.  For something smaller, the M3 or Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio would probably my first picks.  Mid-size I'm a fan of either the E63/M5 or their tamer variants int he E43/M550i.

Yeah, just that Audi parts, even being German, are a whole hell of a lot easier to get than Alfa parts in North America, let alone Canada.

All depends on how the car was driven. If it was in city, that's pretty high. If they were commuting to Van from say Abbotsford, it's not as bad.

Luxury cars need more maintenance. Other than that, they're fine. But that should be expected from a higher performance machine. Sort of like how a lawn mower or motorcycle needs less than a car. Civic's are great for reliability, if not a bit boring.

What's nice about my F150 is, in 58000 miles, I yet to put it in the shop (although it's due for PM) for anything other than oil and filter changes every 7500 miles and the occasional wipers and air filters.

I'd be lying if I said the Giulia wasn't drop dead gorgeous. I was at a dealership around a month ago that had a grey one and holy shit, those things are nice.

Aye, that's the nice thing about truck engines, they're so basic that they just run and run.

I'm with you on this. I was in the market for a car last year, and my mistrust in FCA products ultimately steered me away from a buy, and the special offer they had on a lease didn't offer high enough mileage per year. I almost always break my neck whenever a Giulia passes by me though lol

 

But to stay on topic and answer the OP's question, I would go either Audi or Mercedes. Audi has really stepped up their game in terms of interior quality and exterior styling these last couple years (I used to think they were a bit too bland, and their design language now is just right), and Mercedes hasn't wronged me yet; We have a 12 year old C-Class that still runs like clockwork and the interior is still in great condition and super plush (though some of their designs have been questionable as of late, i.e. AMG GT 4-door and the new GLE).

That's a stereotype build from the Americans as it's a car that in the 2000's you could only buy in your "mid-life". As the middle class was larger than todays.

I voted for Mercedes, but it would either be it or Lexus, if i had to choose specific models from each brand i would pick a WALD modified W140 S600 from Mercedes:

These two, for me, capture the "big boy VIP sedan" look just perfectly.

Which is why I've been looking. The thing hasn't failed once (apart from a tire blowout and bent wheel thanks to a surprise pothole on the highway), but I just can't think of a single feature of it that's worth mentioning. Which is why I've been calling it the shitbox as of late. 

 

Perhaps a Mazda 6 GT might be in my future. Though the family Mazda 5 we have has been rather problematic. The thing is burning through a lightbulb every year and a half, and the some lights in the dash have gone out (I have never seen that happen, even on a BMW where everything is supposed to go wrong). 

 

A W204 C Class Coupe might also work since they've depreciated like crazy (just found an example selling for $19k with only 44k KMs on the clock) and it has the available I-4 which I like. I don't need the V6 that comes standard in the Sedan variant.
