That didn't seem like fun at all for either of you. It was clear to me that Riley was bothered whether or not he is willing to admit it. And the way you finished that "joke" really didn't sound like a joke. If I was sitting in that chair next to you and you said that "joke", I would have been pissed off.

And in general on WAN Shows you have been rude and a jerk to the other host(s) on ocassion.

Probably Riley just being polite.

And literally just few seconds after it

Do you people even watch LTT? They throw shade all the time in the videos. Do you people even remember Riley's introduction? They literally pick him up from the trashbin. I'd have thought you people were regular nerds who aren't very hot for the current SJW movement with the taking offense olympics but here you are in shiny armor made from diarrhea ready to protec and go berserc over nothing. Probably should just stay off the internet if that was too much.

There, Riley doesn't care, can people stop whining now?

I feel like now LTT needs to do a troll video of Riley 'reviewing' a graphics card and getting everything wrong; Things like looking through the warehouse for a dedicated PhysX card to pair with it, wondering why the system won't boot when he's forgot to plug in the 8pin connectors, using the 3rd or 4th PCIe slot that only runs at 4x speed, using a G4560 with 2GB single channel RAM as the test platform, comparing the benchmark results of a X080ti against a GT 710, and finally finish off by dropping it.

(You can pass it off saying that because the new graphics cards are coming out soon, you need to collect some benchmarks on the old cards so you will have something to compare the new cards with, and that your original benchmarks from when the 10 series cards first released are no longer accurate due to driver updates and newer games being used as benchmarks; so you need to run the tests again to update your results)

Now Ridley has spoken. Can we please get back to slagging Apple off (just because) and stamping our feet at Nvidia, over this laboriously slow trick of RTX information.

For starters I believe this was just deep banter, when you've known someone for such a long time there's a connection outsiders won't see. I have friends where we insult each other to a point that outsiders would think we're on the verge of fighting but it's actually a really good friendship.

IMO, this hits the nail on the head perfectly. One of my buddies that I've known for 10+years.. and sometimes we just talk shit to each other. And sometimes I'll troll and act like I'm sad, then later on, talk shit back to him lol.  I don't know why this phenomena exists, but our relationship is strong af. I can always tell him anything on my mind, and vice versa. I'm thinking LTT and Riley's relationship is kinda like that (especially since Linus said they've known each other for over 8 years).

However, I also have another friend who I've known for  quite some time and it's totally different. Just depends on the friend and the relationship I think.

Hi, don't really use the forum but I thought this was important enough to put in my 2 cents.

To Linus, after watching the WAN show I as well as many of your viewers left with a sour taste in our mouths. I think that whether Riley actually got his feelings hurt is entirely beside the point. Through the years, you've shown us that you care deeply for your employees and I have no doubt that you treat them well, however, I think that what was said on the WAN show went a little too far. You were being rude, and what your said could have easily been taken as being extremely hurtful, and it was taken as such by much of the audience if not by Riley himself. I understand the culture of banter, it's one of my favorite things about TechLinked and TechTips content, but as a content creator, you failed miserably to make it clear in the moment that it was simply banter. Furthermore, and this is what worries me, you're response is entirely dismissive, and contains no apology at all. You don't apologize for it not being clear that it was a joke, hell you don't even recognize that there was any issue whatsoever, when obviously the audience thought there was a problem. I don't like the idea of any content creator absolutely ignoring and dismissing the audience in this way, particularly with such a condescending tone.

Your response to all this, and this is just my interpretation but I think a fair one, is basically "Audience you're stupid for even thinking I was serious when I deadpanned the whole thing, re-watch it and look closer."
I love the content you guys produce and I want to continue enjoying long into the future but I didn't enjoy this content, you can do better.
I hope you all take this constructively and do better in the future for it.

Choosing a side in this kind of situation is kind of a catch-22, because really, you're wrong either way: One side jumped to conclusions, and the other overreacted. The reality of it is that Riley didn't take offense to it, so the whole thing is by definition a non-issue.

I disagree wholeheartedly, it obviously is an issue. As content creators you shoulder the responsibility of ensuring your message comes off in the manner you intend and if it doesn't then that's okay but you should at the very least acknowledge that something went wrong and not point the blame to the audience. Once again, the issue should have been addressed professionally and maturely and it was not. Instead we got an "It was just a prank bro".

if he was insulting the audience, then yes i agree. but it was banter with a college and friend he has known for years. no one had any right to get involved and be offended on Riley's behalf, it's between him and Linus, both of who know it's a joke. how people perceive it doesn't matter, because it doesnt effect anyone but those two.

"microaggressions" and outrage culture is the most annoying thing on the internet these days.

You also need to understand that he's not some intern who isn't sure about his job security or his skills. Evaluating gaming cards may not be one of them but who cares? That's not what he was hired to do.

Riley was brought in as a specialist for TechLinked.

Hey Linus, Riley is a GENIUS for the 'stan' comment, although it went completely over your head. I know you were thinking like cuckistan, but he was talking about the stalker-fan stan.

This is an internet meem you should be aware of, originating from the Eminem PV/Song - Stan

It became popularlized years later on twitter, but you should be aware of what Staning something is.

Just my 2 cents

This is so dumb. At the beginning of the wan show, linus even was so enthusiastic about what Riley does on the side, and asked him how he was doing and basically gave him free promotion. It seemed like it was unplanned too, but people seem to just dismiss that and go straight for the 'harsh' parts without looking at context.

That moment got totally blow out of proportion. I also saw a comment that thought Linus was hostile to Riley the ENTIRE show...I was dumb-founded. Honestly considering now whether they were trolling

Yeah I agree, whatever is between Riley and Linus is between them, that's their business and honestly I don't think there's any issue. My issue was the how utterly dismissive and frankly condescending the reply was. People were obviously genuinely concerned. On the flip side, I think I get Linus' reaction too tho. There were a lot of hasty accusations and hostility thrown at him for what i'm sure seemed to be no reason. I still think it could have been handled better tho.

Linus works crazy hard and is a spaz, he does all his own writing and doesn't sit behind a wall of publicists. Y'all are too soft and a nice famine would straighten that right out.

You got the truth.

You didn't like it so you chose not to believe it.

Nothing more can really be done.

Just gonna lock this since clearly there's nothing more I or my team can achieve by responding to this.
