Turkish website finally tests 2080 Ti vs 1080 Ti in 4K with benchmarks

A turkish tech site with over 93K subscribers have finally compared the 1080 Ti to 2080 Ti

There is no article on their website but they have released this YT video 3 hours ago:

The test system had a 7700K and 16GB RAM

So overall there is between a 20-60% jump in performance. This is due to premature drivers

I feel the opposite, this is VERY promising considering the drivers will still be Beta or even Alpha, so far from optimised.

 

I don't expect even at launch it to perform at its best, it always takes them a while to optimise the drivers for new architectures.  Just look at how much Vega improved since launch.

Plus they've actually added new tech this generation instead of refining the previous gen, like the new tensor/AI cores and ofc Ray Tracing, so all those should get much better over time with drivers. Same as how Ryzen was kinda eh at first till the BIOS updates and optimizations started coming.

That's actually pretty good I think! Hopefully it's the same improvement on the RTX 2070 and if it is then I'm definitely getting one :)

To be fair though, no point in buying it JUST for the new tech if all your old games run poorly.  It needs to be much better across the board, which I'm optimistic it will be.  Especially if these results are without overclocking too.

Not impressed. It is clear that Nvidia can't compete, not innovative and will close its doors. I expect minimum, a 300% performance boost at worst case. And for the price, unacceptable.. maybe if it was a 20$ graphics card, sure... MAYBE.. not sure.. but at this price point, heh. It is clear that VIA S3 graphics chip is the way forward. At least with the S3, if it can't do something like DVD playback, it doesn't attempt at doing it. Nvidia is clear can't handle games, it should not do it.

But on a serious note. A nice performance bump 30% is actually a bit more than what I expected. I expected a 10-20% boost due to the focus on Ray Tracing. Now we have to see power draw, official drivers, and all that, but so far so good. For sure the focus is on Ray Tracing, I would like to see how it makes things better in supported games, as of course it would need to justify the price. If Nvidia is really not dropping the price, and the performance is really 30% at best, and Ray Tracing is nice, but not massively big in reality, than I might be waiting this gen out.

30% with 4k video is a MASSIVE improvement.   23 frames in 4k is like 80 in 1080p

I'm at work and can't youtube. Is this a FE vs FE? Or AIB pre-clocked or something?

Looks to be about 30% average performance improvements. Good drivers could get you another 10% at best. I mean its an improvement, but a 1.1k improvement? I dunno.

From the beginning I was planning on keeping my 1080 Ti through this and probably the next gen too, but then again I felt that way about my 980 Ti until the 1080 Ti turned out to be actually a full 100% faster than it in almost every scenario I used my GPU for.

@I-r0k raytracing disabled of course, 1080ti will run like crap if its enabled, and 2080ti wont do that at 4K

You joke, but the prices just keep climbing. I paid $650 for a GTI 1080ti, now I gotta shell out $500 more for a 30% improvement. The pricing is insane.

But its not though, as there is RTX and AI in there too.  Somebody has to pay for innovation and as always its early adopters.

I was thinking that the bare minimum increase would be about 20% for this generation just based on the general CUDA count increase (4352 vs 3584)...  Good to see that it may actually be a bit higher than that, but still not looking at it as an upgrade for this generation.  Maybe in 2 to 3 years when they have their next generation being released and some of the specialized features become more mainstream.

I bet that most of the improvements in performance are from the faster GDDR6 which makes most of the performance increase at 4k since it is very bandwidth demanding. 

1440p will be likely much less impressive. 

(cant watch the video, no idea if they tested 1440p)

I think the upgrade is going to be far more appealing for people going up to the GTX 2070.

I am not denying the high price. I would like to see more official numbers (officially released drivers), and, well, if it doesn't sale, in a few months after release the price will drop. That said, I did lose track of the price difference due to the lower Canadian dollar currency, rising the price of everything, and mining story.

So NVIDIA's claim of 35-45% over Pascal is holding up, but that sounds like a normal generational leap, not a reason to heavily markup the new lineup. I guess those more concerned with not spending a grand on a 2080 Ti are best to hold out and hope prices drop once Pascal's inventory depletes or hope the Vega refresh isn't depressing.

Need to emphasize on "sort of".

 

1080p and 4K isn't just a 4-fold increase in resolution, so 1/4 performance. It's been about 1/2 the performance going from 1080p to 4K in most scenarios. There are bottlenecks at 4K that aren't at 1080p, and it's likely Nvidia has spent a lot of effort addressing those. We should see a lot bigger leap in 4K than 1080p.

 

Also, the 2080 Ti has 20% more CUDA Cores, plus the new stuff and much faster memory. These numbers look about right. For Honor, the most GPU heavy of the games, is probably the upper-end for what the card can do at 4K. Nice improvement, but it's currently ~650 USD for a 1080 Ti and it's going to be ~1100 USD for a 2080 Ti. Yeah, there's going to be some sour grapes about that.

Just an ass-pull estimate based on the number of CUDA cores and clock speed (base speed), if you compared the two, the RTX 2080 Ti should only perform about 3% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti and 8% over the Titan Xp. This is assuming of course that everything else is considered equal.

 

So an up to 60% improvement on what amounts to an up to 8% increase in theoretical performance is interesting.
