Budget Smartphone wanted

19_blackie_73

Hey guys,

a friend of mines smartphone died (s4 mini). She's looking to replace it (obviously), but budget isn't that big but i guess big enough with 200€ (Germany). She wants:

  • as close as possible sizewise to the s4 mini
  • preferably changeable battery (do they still exist?)
  • external sd card slot
  • at least 16GB internal memory

If the camera is on par with the s4 mini, it's close enough for her and performance wise, she's just chatting and a bit of social media, so no need for crazy power.
Point 1 and 2 are probably hard to fulfill, but if it ticks these boxes it would be nice. Smaller size is more important than the battery.

And some obvious points like decent battery life and half decent call quality are set.

What can you recommend?

Thanks in advance :)

Take a look at the Nokia 6 or for slightly more the 6.1

It doesnt have an replacable batrery, but is an great overall phone with very good software support, sturdy build quality and stock android with no bloatware

I may have gone way off the mark here, but the Sony Xperia L1 and Sony Xperia XA2 are good choices. They're both super budget-friendly and both come in 16GB of internal storage, as well as an SD card slot.

xa2 is the same ballpark as the a5, the L1 definitely to big.

She's currently on a s2 as a backup and she says it's the max in size. Don't new smartphones hide their size better because they have better ergonomics?

I personally tend the nokia route too, because too many samsungs died on me suddenly.

What about the nokia 3? it's a bit smaller and cheaper

Nokia 3 is still good. Though look for the nokia 3.1 it is newer and has significantly better support

Being honest, there will not be many phones to choose from with this size. I also wanted no larger than 4,7" but now I have almost 6" phone. She will get used to 5" very soon and will notice that this is even better than a small screen!

I know, we'll see with what she ends :)
I'll probably convince here to go to the nearest tech store to look at the new sizes and if they could work for her :)

To be honest if you want something with a 4,7" screen, your kinda screwed.

If she ever does plan to go beyond the screen size, the moto g6 32GB is not only cheaper than her budget but also Amazons best selling phone for a reason and survive 2 days no charging (huge 4000 mah battery). My company seems to give out them as company phones and they work pretty amazing for what we do. It also feels surprisingly premium for a "budget" barrel phone and the glassback feels extremely nice actually. But to me the camera is meh in it but I been spoiled by Samsung S9.

Yeah, I think that's the best you can do. It would be easier to give her an idea to try bigger screens if she can see the options out there. But Nokia 3 is already a great option.
