Running Windows and Ubuntu Simultaneously

Currently running Windows 10 on my PC and I have been wanting to figure out how to run both Windows and Ubuntu at the same time with either both OS displaying at the same time on one monitor or having the ability to quick swap between both OS. I want to learn how to run Ubuntu more then I already do and i don't want to cannibalize my system and lose most of it's usability just to expand my knowledge by a small amount.

do you have windows 10 pro or home?

you can run ubuntu in a hypervisor such as vmware or virtualbox. if you have windows 10 pro you can enable virtualization and use the microsoft hypervisor hyper-v.

all are free and will let you use both.

depending on your computers hardware.

I run Ubuntu on Hyper-V, them have mobaxterm running on windows. i setup 2 virtual nics in hyperV one with access to the internet and one that only has access to the host running the VM

them just add this to my bash (or whatever you use) profile

export DISPLAY=10.0.0.1:0.0

that will allow you to use either mobaxterm terminal in windows or something like hyper or terminus even the linux sub system to ssh into your VM but every time you run  a Xaplication it will show like a native app in windows, with the added benefit that copy paste works between windows and the ubuntu VM. this is my development setup i use professionally.

this will work with any other hypervisor.

If your running a vm there is no reason for a partition, just use a vm file. Works better that way

Sadly i came too late, but i suggest you give a look at windows subsystem for linux. You can access linux software without the need (and the performance loss) of virtualization software.

More complex than if  you only needed command line software but yes you can.
