Cheapest 10Gb/s home network solution?

For client to client you will not need a router.

Option 1 get two 10g NICs, two 10g SFP+ Modules, and a OM3 fiber cable

Option 2 get two 10g NIC and use Direct Attached Copper

Option 3 get two 10g NIC (RJ45) and use Cat6/Cat6a cable depending on the length. This might be the best option for future expansion.

Hey!

 

So I am seeking some advice on how I would create a peer to peer 10Gb/s transfer speed for the cheapest amount possible. Is it as easy as getting two identical cards and plugging them in?

I would like to do this as cheap as possible.

Aquantia/Asus sell 10GB cat6a cards for under $100 each.  The cheapest router I've seen is a 4 port model from Netgear for around $350.

The important thing to consider is why and will you get any benefit from it?

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

I put a dual port nic in my NAS and single port cards in my 2 rigs and works perfect cost was around $150 in sever pulls and the cables
