I have. It probably is but at the same time he still wrote that article and defended it, he could have dissented or blown the whistle

Tom's Hardware are handling this so poorly. I can't believe the Editor in Chief of such a large media brand like TH would first publish an article like that and then tolerate the way they are discrediting their German counterpart. And the way the forum is suffering as well is just sucky.

So glad I chose this Forum to share and learn about technology! Great community! :)

I read everything. Heck, rumor has it that even Tom himself is displeased.

How this guy could even be an editor-in-chief, let alone even be a journalist in the first place is mind boggling.

I don't disagree. Just makes it seem like it wasn't just entirely just his opinion, and that it was the push from Purch. Which could be worse depending on how you choose to look at it.

Dis be Tom, very very rare for him to publicly say anything anymore as he prefers his surgeon life but here it is. I am surprised GN didnt mention it in the video but perhaps they know he doesn't want to get involved.

The writer who wrote that "opinion piece" is insane and should quit. They should sit in a woods and reflect on their life. Go for a walk. Feed some ducks. Give sweets to orphans. Then slap themselves in the face and ask "what was I doing".

... that's just like, my opinion, and in no way am I being paid by AMD to advertise their opinion of TomsHardware staff... ;)

Looks like Tom's Hardware U.S. -- or Purch Group Inc -- is now on damage control.

Damage control in a *BAD* way, by implementing 100-year bans on the forum, and deleting thread posts / responses.

They react the same way every time there's a controversy. Like when they released a top 5 CPUs article without any mention of Ryzen. One of the worst things is they seem to crack down harder on people with well thought out critical responses than the typical internet "lol dumb" type posts. It's still pretty shocking that they'd permaban a guy from the (now separately owned and operated) German Tom's Hardware.

The weird thing is you can make an argument for pre-ordering parts, especially new generation GPUs. For the last few GPU generations, we've normally seen a post-launch spike well above MSRP before settling down. In the current GPU generation, the best deal with the ~500 people that got RX Vega 56 at the 399 MSRP on launch.

Thinking about this entire situation again, maybe this is more of a paid spot by EA.

one question:

why didn't Nvidia let people review the cards now that they are announced officially, for sure they must have a few cards ready already? Couple that with them not having released any real benchmarks and only talked about raytracing. They created the perfect ground for this type of things to happen.

The "trust us, it's good, just buy" is not very consumer friendly.

PS: sure there might still be tweaks to do with the firmware, drivers (surely not the hardware itself), but Linus often reviews products disclaiming it's still not the final product, it's pretty usual to see in their videos.

In sum:

it-all-makes-sense-if-you-just-dont-thin

If I wanted to make pre-orders look terrible, this is the article I would write.

You have a site publishing what seems to be a "for preorder" article and a "against preorder" article. The latter makes some reasonable points, the former is lunacy: how does it make preorders look like? It's like those right-wing (left-wing) partisan news channels that always have the left-wing (right-wing) representative to "debate", who just happen to be a complete moron everyone else can use as a punching bag. The most effective form of criticism is a terrible attempt at praise. It's like a kind of reverse strawman, or self-strawman :P

I don't think anyone paid for those, but if someone did, it must have been AMD or Intel. Nvidia must hate the feeling of "if this is the best you can say about RTX..." this article has created.

If AMD paid for it then it would be one of their most effective advertising campaigns for 10 years xD

I signed a contract to NOT damage the reputation and image of TH with my publications under the TH brand logo. That's fine and self-evident. And I still believe in objective journalism, which refers to facts and real test results and not to speculation and click-baiting. I have always represented my opinion publicly, because whoever ducks away also sells his own ideals.

But this guy is damaging my current work and all, what we built in the past. I'm also in contact with Thomas the founder and it's a shame what happened. All this shit falls back also to my own business. And not only. I'm not sure that he read his contract carefully. I run here a complete independent site and pay only for the brand and domain (ok, I changed it from the begin to an own :D to be safe).

It is my great hope that everyone involved will remember what once distinguished this website. I am the last person who would not support this with all his strength, time and also his own money. My hope is entirely with the new owners, who will hopefully implement what was stated in the letter of intent. It will be my pleasure to be able to continue to offer all those loyal readers exactly the content they have received for years and whose right it is to demand exactly this standard also in the future.

The handling of this controverse is not poor, it is a real suicide. The whole staff is in panic mode, because the new owners will visit the NY office this week. Nothing was better timed, than this "article" from the "geekingchief" himself. Bravo!

Hi Igor,

Welcome to LTT forum :)

I'm probably not the only one who is lacking some of the context behind this post. Has Tom's been sold again? I thought it was under the Purch umbrella?
