Twitch Prime Ends Ad-Free Viewing for Prime Users, citing "Opportunity for Creators"

I was notified just now through email about the upcoming changes to my Twitch Prime account (linked through Amazon Prime)

So now instead of getting ad free content through your amazon Prime account, you have to get them through Twitch's own services (or pray your favorite streamer still has Twitch Prime Subscribers Ad free enabled) As a Twitch Prime user, I dislike this move, and it makes me more interested in platforms like the upcoming Steam.tv

In related news "Fullmental" ends Twitch subscriptions citing opportunity to save money and stick it to Bezos.

 

I'm done with them. I've been a member since the justin.tv days and I've been patient and understanding as things change, but this is too much. They already jacked the price of Prime citing higher costs, and now they want to have me double-pay for Twitch? Nope. No way. I'm cancelling all of my subscriptions for the creators too. It sucks for them but they can add other donation options if they want my money without Twitch getting their filthy hands on it first.

 

My only regret is I still have 10 months of Prime before I can cancel that, and I kind of need that time to find an alternative before canceling.

Twitch Turbo still exists.

 

I get why they are doing this, they probably noticed that the money lost to no ads was not off set by new Prime users as much as they expected.

 

I think this sucks but it is just like how twitch was like before amazon prime was part of it.

When they announced twitch prime originally they discontinued turbo.

Twitch ads can bypass Adblock Plus. Try uBlock Origin or a router-level solution such as PiHole.

pihole does not work on youtube

ublock doesnt work on android apps or any device that doesnt have ublock like consoles, or other devices

I do use uBlock, I was just using Adblock as a generic term, although I might look into PiHole once I get my network fully set up

Most people are stuck with tightly locked down+shitty ISP routers though. Routers that are only given out once production has ceased.

pihole will work even with a shitty ISP router, although I had some issues with mine forwarding the traffic on both ethernet and wifi at the same time, it should work most as you set it up as a dns server. If you can set dns on the isp router (usually can) you're golden

 

You can also use the DHCP method if you can't switch DNS

You don't even need extra hardware.  I have an Ubuntu VM running on my server running PiHole.  VM just gets a direct IP address from the router via network bridge mode so then router can also apply DHCP reservation.  Good to go!
