The 2060 better beat the pants of the 1080, else it would feel like a pretty meh card.

Time will tell... I think the better position to be in right now is a watchful waiting one... Save up as much as you can and wait for the actual release and hope that cryptocurrency mining doesnt resurge

For the stupid prices of these cards, and the price confusion alone, I hate this generation of video cards already. They're too expensive.

Funnily enough this is the most transparent Nvidia has ever been. We're getting the 2070, 2080 and the flagship 2080 Ti all on launch day and the naming is accurate. It just so happens that people didn't quite realise that prices had shifted upwards a whole tier last generation because the Titan naming threw them off. Just look at the Pascal Titan X. It's basically a 1080Ti.

Yeah I think people would be less mad if the cards announced were RTX 2080, RTX 2080ti and RTX Titan with the same prices ;-)

But it also works as a standard display output.

I guess it should... wont know for sure until reviews come in. Theoretically speaking it should support Alt-Mode and be able to supply displayport over the connection

There has not been any mention of 1000 series being discounted just that the 20 series is expensive.

I'm sure come release day in september prices of Pascal would come down

Nope. The prices for the 980 is still around the same price. They are just now tiering the price upwards.

That's a poor argument.

Was it a poor argument though? Or just a funny observation regarding an incredibly stupid statement?

Not sure, as there is a major price difference between 1080 and 2080, why decrease the price, they are not competing? I expect a 10-15% price decrease from shops, but nothing that was unseen before

Pretty disgusting statement imo, if you're poor you can still save to make a purchase

Because ray tracing is the big deal. Nvidia doesn't usually show benchmarks at product announcements. We'll see them on release as usual. Plus we know the cuda core power is 14tflops vs 11.3 tflops for 1080ti so you can make some estimates, however the 14TIPS (not tflops) may help further than the tflop estimate shows

It's silly that people are shocked at any tech company doing this.  What did you think NVIDIA would say? "Yeah, we totally have new stuff coming in a few months, please don't buy anything right now?"  Of course not.  The company isn't going to give you vague hints or non-answers, either.

Companies are often fine with knowledgeable customers holding back, but what they don't want to do is create an Osborne Effect where sales plummet across the board after they effectively pre-announce a new product.  That's not malicious; that's a basic business survival tactic.

Curb your condescension. They could've very easily refrained from responding in that situation. They really didn't need to mislead with vague wording like "a long time".

It's not like I was suggesting that they just reveal every little move they were going to make for the next year. I just happen to think it was a "dick move" for them to kill off any hype surrounding their new products so that they could enjoy stable sales for a few months. I mean, this isn't necessarily surprising, considering their track record. Do you really think it would have cost them an arm and a leg to be a little more transparent?

Just now, Lathlaer said:

It's actually close to 4 months because the announcement was on the 5th of June and now you need to count another month until the cards are available.

During that time (June) everyone kind of expected new card in a week or two so him saying "not in a long time" which resulted in 4 months is quite accurate in my book.

I guess that's a fair point. My gripe is that he could have refrained from answering altogether, and have left it up to our judgement. His "long time" statement just tipped over the people who were on the fence about buying a graphics card back then, at least from my anecdotal experience.

complaining about price and tiers hahaha

tiers always change just like price and no competition and we all know ram prices are bad right now

they brought a new product and possibly new shit like ray tracing out when they didnt have any competition in highend so blame them

they know how much 1080ti they sold last gen and many people have them so upping the price is also indicator they can raise the price like apple did on their iphones

Rn the PC Master Race group on fb is blowing up with fanboys defending the ridiculous pricing and actually believing the "6x performance boost" claims when we haven't even seen real world performance yet.
