I think it's quite clear even though the main feature of the architecture is ray tracing, these RTX cards are not for the average gamer in mind.

The founder's edition is almost $1600 CAD.

It's the founder's edition, so a card from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, etc. will be up to around $100 more.

Tax on top of all that is ~$200 in most provinces in Canada.

 

In stores you would be paying $1900 CAD!?

 

If this isn't at least almost double the performance of the 1080 ti...

Yup. When compared to other hobbies, it's still pretty cheap.

As PC gaming gains traction and more people get into it, of course prices are going to go up. Not to mention if the 2060 can slaughter 1080p, these higher end cards will have an even smaller market to sell to.

I don't believe I mentioned budgeting. Students and teens are more likely to have low incomes.

Budgeting is a personal choice. With a student or a teen, it's more of a matter of fact; they can't work as much, as they have studies to focus on.

The MSRP for the third party cards seems to be:

2080 Ti - $999

2080 - $699

2070 - $499
