Monitor shows nothing; even with the PC turned on the monitor doesn't receive a signal. I can't check the BIOS screen.

can you try and run on the IGPU form the motherbord ?

Pull out the gpu, rest cmos, boot using the IGPU form the motherbord

I have a very old desktop  (Gateway DX4710-UB002A) that POSTs but does not display anything onto the monitor. I have a fan spin and hear the beep that indicates that Windows is booting up.

Spoiler

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz

RAM: 6GB

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3650

These are the things I've done to try and remedy it, all to no avail:

  • Tried different monitor
  • Tried different cable - VGA
  • Tried different cable - DVI
  • Reseating CPU
  • Reseating GPU
  • Reseating RAM

I'm thinking that my outdated GPU may be the problem. My questions are: Would a new GPU fix the problem? And if so, should I go on ebay and buy another ATI Radeon  HD 3650, or should I buy an "upgrade" GPU? What more recent-yet-still-outdated GPU should I get?

If I remove the GPU, I have no other VGA/DVI port to plug into the monitor.

Edit: Sorry, I wasn't looking close enough. I have another VGA port. Will try that.

Had to plug in VGA directly into the mobo and reset CMOS. Thanks.
