DRAM Prices Not To Be Expected Coming Down But To Reach $100 Billion Volume This Year

All the folks expecting to grab those DRAM bundles and snap them into their system as soon as the market value drops, THIS IS NOT HAPPENING this year, unfortunately.

The DRAM market is expected to increase in value some 30% this year, in wake of increased demand and parts shortage due to less-than-adequate production ramp-up to keep up with the demands of modern systems integrators. Doing this, its value will jump to more than $100 Billion in value, marking the first time a semiconductor product category ever surpasses that mark. The 30% increase in value joins an accumulated 78% increase that already occurred in 2017 - a twofold increase in just two years. Who said anything about cryptocurrency having massive increases in value?

About 18 months ago, I bought 128GB of DDR4 (2133) value ram for like $500. The same sticks today would cost me $1300. A $100 per stick (16gb sticks) increase feels insane. It's so expensive to get into the DRAM business, or we'd see a lot more competition right now.

I think even if they ended price fixing there's still a supply/demand problem. DRAM demand is still rising. Supply is increasing over the next few years but I doubt the increase will be enough to make the price see a downward spiral. I think they've done the math to avoid messing with the price. I think it's risky from a profit standpoint to make a significant dent into the supply problem. You move more units but make less per unit and may end up not being able to unload your merchandise at some point.
