Phone Repair, what do I need to get started?

Hello, I would like to teach myself to repair phones.

Any tools you guys recommend? and where can I buy "trainee" stuff, so I do not "destroy a screen on mac" / phone

I want something cheap, so I can get started quick.

I want to switch screens on phones for friends and such. Help me get started please.

  • iFixIt's website for some guides
  • iFixIt Pro Tech Tool Kit
  • And lots and lots of youtube videos.

However most modern phones are not repair friendly.

PLEASE QUOTE ME IF YOU ARE REPLYING TO ME

@RollinLower Can you recommend me a heatgun special for phones maybe?

i dunno about any phone-specific heat guns. i just used an old Bosch heat gun i had laying around. just make sure to not heat the phone too much or you will burn the internals.

just hot enough that you can barely still hold the phone is usually what i go for.

Search ebay for "iphone 6 for parts" or something like that to find bricked iphones for cheap. If you can make them work again, then you can sell them back at a profit too. Other than that, ifixit and youtube are your best friends.

@James Evens I learned soldering in school at very young age. I could pick that or learn German.

But nice tip.

think my biggest problem will be the heat gun and applying new adhesive.

I changed the battery and charge port in my Nexus 6P a while ago, and for that I bought an iFixIt "styled" kit off amazon (i'm a cheapskate) and used the hot air attachment of my gas soldering iron. I've got to say that at least for the 6P, it wasn't as hard as I expected...

I will only ever answer to the best of my ability - there is absolutely no promises that I will be correct. Or helpful. At all.

Buy broken phones and follow YouTube videos or do ifixit stuff.

It’s pretty basic as I’ve replaced several phone screens on iPhones. Just don’t loose the screws
