Intel 8700K cooling

Stoigeboiii

I just started a new build for my pc and forgot a cpu fan. No big deal, I was gonna go get one from my near by electronic store. But i was going on vacation and didn't have time. I just got back and as a gift from one of my family members I got a Thermal Take fan. I thought cool, I'm gonna install it. My motherboard is a tight fit on my case and I managed to get everything in. I had to go to work before doing any tests on the new hardware. But as I am on my lunch break a video by Linus comes up on my feed about the fan I recieved. The metal ThermalTake fan. I thought cool then thought shit what has happened.

Is my cpu gonna get too hot?

TL;DR:

New i7 8700K with a ThernalTake Metal Fan. Is it gonna overheat easily and should I get a new fan and lie to my family member? Whats the heat limit of a new cpu? Am I f**ked?

Also any LGA 1151 fan recommendation incase I do wanna overclock and avoid thermal throttle?

you're not screwed, just run the CPU at low voltage and clock speed for a while.

If you properly installed it, you can use the CPU, it'll just thermal throttle on worse case scenario.

Any Noctua air coolers. The bigger, the better. If you want, you can get a 280MM AIO or bigger for higher clock speeds and lower noise.

hi.

I would recommend the Hyper 212 Evo, it is around 30$.

Nobody recommends that anymore, unless you can get it a lot cheaper. The Cryorig H7 cools better, doesn't look hideous, has better RAM clearing, and is usually the same price.

America.

That's really weird. It's a recent increase. I doubt it will last long. I withdraw my suggestion at its current price though. It's not worth more than $35USD.

I wouldn't recommend any budget cooler for $300+ CPU known to be on hotter side.

I ran my 8700k with the Intel Stock Cooler from my i5 4690k for a few days before I got my current cooler. Just don't stress it too much and you'll be fine. I'd definitely get a new cooler, but be prepared to shell out some $$$ for a good one.

I'd recommend something such as the Noctua NH-D15 or Cryorig R1 Ultimate if you want an air cooler, or at a minimum a 240mm AIO if you want a liquid cooler.

I'm using a Corsair H100i Pro (AIO) with my 8700K. It does an okay job at cooling it (overclocked to 5GHz @ 1.275v), though it does get quite loud under load. A 280mm AIO or one of the air coolers I mentioned would be a better idea if you can fit it in your case.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Cryorig is sold only in the united states and a few countries in Europe

212 EVO is still the king of cheap coolers in south america and india, basically because there are no other options

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

Where are you shopping / located? Budget?

What case and ram are you using?

Where are you located? They're both international shops.

Cryorig is sold wider than just few countries. But CM has been around longer and has bigger presence overall. Still, 212 might not be best budget cooler as there are many others.
