Time for an upgrade!

After almost 5 years, I think it's time to say goodbye to my i7-4770k build. You were my first PC, and I shall retire thee to became a stress-less Google machine for the queen mother.

I will be using my computer for 3d work/rendering for 60% of the time. the other part will be split between gaming and web browsing shenanigans. I live and go to school 2h away from my hometown, and I go back home every summer. It's not a lot of travelling, but it affects the size for sure. My current case is huge for no reason, simply because I went cheap on it. NOT THIS TIME.

Budget wise, i was around ~1750 CAD, new parts, and monitors. I hope that this build can last me also another 5 years.

Programs (from most used, to less): CAD, Revit, Photoshop, Rhino 5, Sketch Up, Illustrator, Bridge, Premiere (rarely use this)

Games: Dota2, Overwatch, League of Legend, R6 Siege, Skyrim, Minecraft,

components in orange are transferred from my old build
stuff I'm pretty sure I'll be using:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x
GPU: GTX 1060 6gb Windforce (Only used it for a year)

Memory: any ddr4 16gb 3000MHz.

Storage: 256gb Samsung 970 EVO + old HDD

stuff I'm not so sure about:

PSUAntec HCG 750W Bronze+ (used for my old build, for almost 5 years. Never gave me any problem but I don't know how long it can still last me)
Mobo: Really don't know about this 1. need to do more research on which mobo to use. ATX or mATX, depending on the case choice

CPU Cooling:  Wraith Prism. (I read mixed reviews on the stock cooler, but I'll give it a shot and see what I can pull off. I would also avoid AIO, just because...)

Case: Corsair Air240 / Thermaltake Core V21 / Fractal Design Meshify C (Looking for a case with good airflow, and small enough to be carried around. I know the Meshify has a tempered glass but I think it's small enough for me to secure it in my car)

Monitor: really not sure about this 1 either. I was looking for a 144hz WQHD 27" IPS monitors but those cost quite a bit. I'm also open for a dual monitor setup.

I did not buy anything yet. This is a pre-planning more than anything else. What y'all think? Would it be worth to wait for a while for new parts to come out?

I think I've found something you could use. It does take portability to the next level (probably overkill) but it really works.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7GHz 8-Core

  • Difference between 1800x and 2700x is minimal. Might want to consider 18/1700x

Motherboard: [MSI - B450I GAMING PLUS AC Mini ITX AM4

Memory: Team - T-Force DARK 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2666

Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 250GB M.2-2280

Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB WINDFORCE OC 6G

  • Reuse
  • May want a better GPU for

Case: Silverstone - ML08B-H HTPC

  • Good Airflow
  • handle
  • Vertical GPU mount (no window to see through)

Power Supply: Silverstone - 500W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX

  • Can't use the old PSU.

Monitor: AOC - i2769Vm 27.0" 1920x1080 60Hz

  • only 60hz
  • only 1080p
  • if you are REALLY serious about editing photos/videos then get a really expensive (2x price) 1440p.

Total: About CAD$1700 (Underbudget)

Something to note is that your old HDD won't fit in the case if it is 3.5". You could buy an external 3.5" drive bay but that may be annoying.

woooow thats actually a pretty cool option!

I don't travel that much so I'm def. looking for something beefier and... "more aesthetic" (yes im jumping on the rgb bandwagon).
Thank you doh! I could use that build for something else in the future

also, does my old PSU just isnt good enough for my new build, or it's just wouldn't fit in the Silverstone case?
