Alienware M17X R3 5 Beeps of Death

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hello interwebs, Listen a Friend bought a "dead" Alienware M17X R3 for 100$ Core i7 2620QM 16gb DDR3 (4x4) 128gb ssd 500gb hdd, GTX 460M 1.5gb , that the seller stated that it was dead as it didnt want to power on and all it did was Beep 5 times, well, he bought it and send it to me, after googling a while i found out that those beeps were related to  a dead CMOS Battery wich was changed and the laptop booted no problem

5 months after, my Friend bought a GTX 770m (wich is indeed supported and sold as an upgrade kit on official stores like Eurocom) but right before the card arrived the laptop began with thoose 5 beeps again, we tried the new card and its the same did ALL the mandatory trouble shooting ETC, even tried brand new CR20 batteries, but still the computer does those 5 Beeps, OR, just Boots into the bios with no image at all not even to an external monitor (and it does with both gpus and igpu) so.. we also tried a different cpu ram hdds etc, any insight?

no, i dont have any extra hdds today, cant erease friends data, but, that wont help much, it doesnt even give an image on the screen, only backlight, and when connected to an external monitor a signal is sent, but no image is displayed

Again, no image is displayed on any screen ,i know its the bios, becase theres not sounds and some function keys dont work, but basic commands do, such as ctrl alt delete to reboot, lock keys light up their indicators, and output keys do change the ouputs

the card was purchased used from Ebay, i just said its also sold from official upgrade retailers such as Eurocom, so we know the card is compatible, could you care to explain, it is my first time upgrading an MXM form factor card, and i thought i was just like a regular pc

sometimes a card needs a custom v-bios for working correctly and sometimes also an unlocked bios

do you have the old card? could you test the system with that old card?

isee, would that be mandatory for the card install, because, i assume the card needs to be installed and working in order to apply that, as i dont own any PCI-E to MXM adapters (nor can buy one atm)

for v-bios you could also use a programmer
