Not much of a point reviewing a product that old, is there? The popularity isn't exactly at a peak so there's less potential there view wise.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Linus is a "entertainment" channel nowadays. I'd look elsewhere for remotely any good infomation.

No, there is a difference between primarily tech and primarily for entertainment.

Primarily tech examples such as Gamers Nexus, LinusTechTips before 2016, Hardware Unboxed

Primarily entertainment such as iJustine, LinusTechTips, Austin Evans.

There are some channels that get a balance (Tech Yes City), but those are rare.

Why would they spend time and money to create a video on a product that won't have much return?

First, let's look at the average Gamers Nexus video

Didn't that really bore you out after a minute or two? It's all facts, no entertainment/half funny linus jokes

Let's switch over to average Linus video.

This conveys a fraction of the information and is practically just a entertainment piece you would find in some weird tech cinema. (someone should make that a thing, I get 45% royalties)

They won't. Here's why.

  • The phone is beyond a year old already
  • Essential, the company isn't doing so hot, indicated by the shelved plans to launch a sequel

The Workhorse (AMD-powered custom desktop)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | GPU: MSI X Trio GeForce RTX 2070S | RAM: XPG Spectrix D60G 32GB DDR4-3200 | Storage: 512GB XPG SX8200P + 2TB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda Compute | OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

The Portable Workstation (Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2021)

SoC: Apple M1 Max (8+2 core CPU w/ 32-core GPU) | RAM: 32GB unified LPDDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD | OS: macOS Monterey

I watch both videos now, the first was boring, yes it had facts in it, but he overwhelmed me with all of the other to compare them to like the noise level. they each contain about the same amount of facts for what they were reviewing. also i didn't really laugh in either video. i prefer linus since the video got to why someone would buy it and it to other computer at each end(power and style) and at the end he compare it to something similar and told you to buy which one was cheaper. the other video was just number(this is bad since if you don't know what they mean in real life its useless) and yes i did get bored a 16 min video for a computer case, man i felt like he was trying to push that video.

He was. Years ago. Currently only times when Linus helps to pick something is when he reviews laptop, does Handy Tech episode or sponsored video. Rest of the time its not worth time to watch if you want help on picking something. Written reviews on specialist sites are still best for that kind of purpose.

2 hours ago, ERT4 said:

Linus doesn't really revies anything. He (almost) never gives grades, recommendations or pros/cons. He does overviews and gives opinion and suggestions.

Not all youtubers are entertainers. There are many whose main aim is education or, well, reviewing stuff as they would do for written sites. The videos you see boring are actual reviews where they go over every spec possible buyer might want to know. This is main reason why I like OC3D channel. 45min videos of motherboards going over every feature, overclocking, memory compatiblity etc.

2 hours ago, ERT4 said:

Labo wasn't late because they did it late. It was late because Luke took it as personal project. True, that they sometimes do stuff which is off main release pace. But with those there usually is some reason, which they say right at start. Usually its sponsor demand, or because item has become surprisingly popular or failed really badly and they want to check if internet is correct or not.

He won't review a phone that old because it simply doesn't make sense. Most people won't be looking for reviews on something that old, and the revenue vs cost simply doesn't add up. While Linus does help consumers pick things, he's first and foremost a business; if he won't make money on a video, chances are it won't be made. Not only that, he's not really someone you should go to for phone reviews, as, while he's experienced with tech, there are many other YouTubers who have vastly more experience with a wide range of devices; their opinions will be based more on fact and comparatives. There's quite a few reviews, both at launch and long term for you to check out.

The Essential Phone is going to be my new phone for this year. I'm waiting for the S10/Note10 to see how they pan out, as it should be a revolutionary advancement.

At $300, it's pretty hard to pass up. As long as you don't care a great deal about the camera.

I don't, I see it as someone who's interested in a product. Really, the Essential Phone will likely last longer than most other devices; it already has Android 9.0, it has a titanium body, and loads of storage.

I'll add that whatever there was to say about the Essential Phone has already been said.  Great build quality, stock Android is great for purists, but the included camera software is terrible (a third-party app is virtually necessary).  You wouldn't much if any additional insight from Linus and crew.

And this is from someone who has an Essential Phone on his desk and is thrilled that it's already running Android Pie.  It did have its moment in the sun when the price came down, but it's a hard sell now given its age.
