Recommended CPU and MOBO

I've been trying to put a mid range gaming pc build together, but I can't help thinking I can do better with the cpu and motherboard. Currently I have (in my list) a

Gigabyte - Z370P D3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and an intel core i5 8400 (6 core) processor, however someone recommended that I either try a B360 motherboard (which is a similar price to the z370 board anyway) or I try a 2600 (I assume an i7 2600) which is more expensive than the i5 with 2 less cores.  I would like some advice as to whether I should do any of the above, or other "budget" (I don't really want to go above £200 for the cpu and motherboard combined) recommendations (for example the i5 2550k looks nice, and is really quite cheap). I have also been wondering whether I should go for a mini-ATX form factor, as they're quite a bit cheaper than the full size ATX. What would this limit?

Many thanks in advance!

B360 boards are a good choice, though unless they cost less than the Z370P D3, there's no point in going for those.

Oh no they dont mean the old Sandy Bridge CPUs, but the Ryzen 5 2600 (tho all Ryzen 6 cores are worth considering) instead. Definitely dont buy the 7 y/o stuff now.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fHcDxG hey man this is what I would go with. I also made a post you made earlier and I have made a complete system as you are confused enough at the moment I thought it would be a great help

ask me about your system builds, AIO's, CPU's, PSU's, and GPU's.

Thanks for clearing things up. Are the ryzen cpus that much better than the i5 cpus?

They are more energy efficient and the probability that you can replace the CPU with the 10nm generation is a bit higher than on Intel, wich is pretty much zero.

And of course the interface between the Die and the Lid is by far better on AMD than it is with Intel.

If the Price isn't totally bad in your country, I don't see a reason to not go for the Ryzen.

Something I've been wondering (since I posted this topic) is whether such a powerful cpu would be bottlenecked by the graphics card i've picked out (a gtx 1060)?
