I Don't Recommend The 2011 Hyper 212 EVO

Yeah, but still not as good as a Freezer 33 ES would look

Judging by you stating you have problems mounting the cooler, you probably did it wrong.

I have had no problem recommending the hyper 212 evo to most people that want to do some minor overclocking. Here in the states sometimes you can find this cooler on sale for as low as $15 US:

There are over 4700 reviews on newegg for this cooler and it has a rating of 4 stars. That is unbelievably hard to achieve 4 stars with that many ratings:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&cm_re=hyper_212_evo-_-35-103-099-_-Product

Also, the hyper 212 evo wasn't thermal throttling your CPU. Temperatures were still under 100C.

For 25 euro yes, there are better coolers out there. But for $15 US here, you can't beat this cooler on sale.

1. No, I did not mount it wrong. I had mounted it three times in my time of using this cooler.

2. Stock clocks and minor overclocks are perfectly fine.

3. I'm not concerned about thermal throttle, I was concerned more with the temperature increase.

4. That's fair enough, you get what you pay for though.

Even for $15 I wouldn't take it, just use stock for a few days

What do high temperatures kill?

High temperatures kill the thing that get's hot.

Meaning even if your CPU is getting hot, your motherboard will stay cool with a $1 fan over the VRM.

I am all for using computer parts as long as they can. I made made lots of money selling used computer parts to others that I dig out of recycling centers, but to me "high temperatures" being 80C is overblown. Processors are unbelievably durable, and even if they run hot they are still likely to work for many years.

At the end of the day, I prefer installing the biggest air cooler I can find with the most thermal mass and rather than overclocking, running my fan speeds as far down as they can go while allowing the CPU to get to 90C+ under load. I really don't care that it's getting so hot, I just value having quiet system. My system is very quiet, you can't hear it from a few feet away even under full load.

Okay, fair, but for those of us who are overclocking...

Was it just me or was it also ungodly to get the springs to compress enough to get the screws to contact their mounting holes? I had to use one of these on a friends pc build and i felt like i was gonna break the motherboard!

I remember this cooler from the Ivy Bridge days, it's an old cooler, not necessarily a poor one.

There's usually no such thing as a bad product, only a bad price, and that's where the Hyper 212 lies now.

I'd take it for free, especially if I was running a Bulldozer-based system.

It'd be quieter and probably cooler than that shite stock cooler.

So "I can't use it because I've never used it".

I'm not saying Bulldozer is a good architecture, but it's not the piece of shit it's portrayed as, and this comes from someone who's had use of it.

I am sorry, but what? Discounting the 9590, none of the bulldozer chips come close to that.

Why are we discounting the 9590? If we want to try and get that POS architecture to some kind of usable state we need the best it can give us

You're looking at a small German company with a product made a few generations ago. We live in the present with the Arctic Freezer 33 eSports range.

I will however look into buying one, seems like it could cool a small i3 or a Ryzen 3 with its size and price.

If memory serves me right, I was able to do 5.2GHz 1.3V. Highest I've ever gone was 5.3GHz 1.4V for around 10 minutes before I got afraid and reverted back.
