I have an i7 7700k CPU

im worried my GTX 1080Ti will bottleneck.

Essentialy, I want to know what I should upgrade first. Memory is no issue. GPU or CPU for gaming.

you could only really upgrade to an i9 but a 1080 shouldn't be bottle necked by a 7700k

your gtx 1080 ti will not bottleneck but a i7 8th gen is way better than your i7 for around the same price.

My current code projects

  • C#/OpenGL ( using OpenTK graphics library API ) KnightsRealm ( unfinished, WIP plan on releasing on steam maybe a mobile port idk ) 2d topdown pixel art based game with medieval themes, sorcery, dragons, open world
  • C++ crypter ( if your into cryptography, I plan on releasing this on my website later :P ) 
  • C#/OpenGL ( OpenGL for UI ) fan/light controller for my room w/ raspberry pi and some mechanical motors and stuff :D


Current repair projects

  • My dreadful receiver ( a capacitor blew ) 
  • working on a PC from a client, CPU died within the system, seems like a short, replaced CPU and awaiting payment before I ship it back 
  • my old 1tb sas drive for my NAS, some blemishes or something on the PCB need to clear that back out, if it doesn't work i'll need to scrap it ( already backed up all my stuff thankfully )

The game's not even done yet. I wouldn't bother changing any hardware until the final release.

that's just not true, in games there's a 5-10% difference between the 7700k and the 8700k. and its not the same price when he already owns one and the other is $350. the only worthwhile improvements come when video/photo editing, 3d rendering, etc.

 

if your computer is for gaming and the internet there is no real benefit to upgrading your cpu at this stage, i would wait till the 9th gen cpu's drop. nvidias new cards are coming at the end of the month, you should wait and see and even then i would only upgrade if there is a noticeable improvement. your computer is well balanced and should have no bottlenecking issues.

Don't change anything. Your rig is very fast and there's no need to upgrade it. Save up and upgrade during the next generation.

You're fine with those specs, no need to change. The game is mostly server bound right now, I haven't noticed much of an fps bump upgrading from an X58 Xeon to a Ryzen 7 2700X (running with a 980 Ti on a 1080p screen so I have no issues GPU wise). The next big patch, 3.3, is coming in September IIRC. It should optimize the game a little more and fix some other stuffs so we'll get a bit better fps.

Your 7700k will not bottleneck a 1080 ti. In anything. Simple as that.
