Source 2: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/aug/02/google-working-on-censored-search-engine-for-china

    • Google backed out of China 8 years ago due to censorship and hacking

  • Google is reportedly building a second app, focused on news aggregation, for the Chinese market, which would also comply with the country’s censorship laws

  • Google already offers a number of apps to Chinese users, including Google Translate and Files Go, but the largest of its services – search, email and the Play app store – are all unavailable.

      • But won’t Google be the “Bing of China” anyway next to Baidu?

    • Since there are now fewer shares, the stock price required to push through the record went up – from around $204 to $207.

Fortnite on Android to bypass Google Play Store

Source 1: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/08/fortnite-on-android-may-drive-its-battle-bus-past-googles-30-cut/

Source 2: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2018-fortnite-on-android-doesnt-use-google-play-confirmed

  • Epic has confirmed that the Android version of Fortnite will entirely bypass the Google Play app store.

    • Fortnite players on Android will have to go straight to the web site, downloading an "APK" file, and opening up Android's permissions to approve the game's install.

  • “Avoiding the 30 percent "store tax" is a part of Epic's motivation.

    • “It's a high cost in a world where game developers' 70 percent must cover all the cost of developing, operating, and supporting their games.

    • “And it's disproportionate to the cost of the services these stores perform, such as payment processing, download bandwidth, and customer service.

    • “We're intimately familiar with these costs from our experience operating Fortnite as a direct-to-customer service on PC and Mac.”

  • What about unwitting users installing malware as a result of opening up Android's security permissions?

    • Epic responds by reminding gamers that the "freedom" of an open platform like Android "comes with responsibility," and that the per-app permission process within newer Android versions is superior to "entrusting one monopoly app store as the arbiter of what software users are allowed to obtain."

It's a personal preference for sure. The Corollas look nice but I'd never get one because of all the problems I've had with their entertainment systems in the past (plus seriously, no touch screens! I can't use them when I'm driving, radio buttons are so much better).

Also, the Corolla doesn't have enough interior space in the back seats or the cargo area for my liking - it's just terrible really. I can fit more in a regular sedan trunk.

Then you have to rev the crap out of their stock engines to get any acceleration (a major issue in my city with really short onramps to the interstate where you basically have to floor it to get on safely), so the extra performance out of the Civic is better for me. Then I'm more comfortable with the six speed on the Hondas vs the Toyotas. They just feel better to me, at least from the limited test drive time I was able to get on Corollas last time I went searching for a car.

Basically every little thing I care about most is slightly better on the Civic vs the Corolla, so that's why I'd get the Civic first.

Personally, the Type R is also out of my budget - those things start at like $35k vs $22k for the regular hatch. I'd probably consider a used one though, or even an Si sedan.

the physical dimensions on the Corolla are defiantly compromised and I hate that the infotainment still does not have Android Auto. I would defiantly get the Civic Si if i am leasing it. but i would get a non turbo Civic or Corolla if I'm buying and keeping it long term because I'm not sure how reliable the turbo engine are. Sadly the Type R is also out of my budget but hopefully i can get one in the future with Doug DeMuro's bumper to bumper warranty.

What happened at 19:13? Just a hiccup I guess.

@LinusTech About the CD's:
It's actually something stupid like 30 cents per CD and most goes to the artists (theoretically)
https://cb-cda.gc.ca/tariffs-tarifs/certified-homologues/2017/2017-12-01.pdf

Quote

5. CPCC shall distribute the amounts it collects, less its operating costs, as follows:

(a) 58.2 per cent, to be shared between the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) and the Society for Reproduction Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers in Canada (SODRAC), on account of eligible authors;

(b) 23.8 per cent to Re:Sound Music Licensing Company on account of eligible performers; and

(c) 18.0 per cent to Re:Sound Music Licensing Company on account of eligible makers.

If the artist you bought the CD for isn't in that list, they don't get paid a %. Which I think is based on sales, which means if Bieber sells 90% of all CDs he'll get 90% of the % given to the part he is associated of, and if your artist only sold 0.01%...

http://www.cpcc.ca/en/

For this reason I stopped buying CD's instead if I like a artist I'll buy the CD instead over borrowing and copying.

Also Linus, you pitched the car/bike and model s to your wife all wrong :P

You should do something like this:

Actually sit down figure out how much each car would cost per year + insurance and approach it like that. Tho if you do that she might actually demand you to get the tesla (or Bolt < Don't buy, get a model 3 instead)

so i am curious about going with an electric motorcycle for my commute to work, i'm tired of spending 50 to fill up a dodge grand caravan. But money is an issue of course. Is there an electric motorcycle under 5k that I could grab come tax returns?it only needs a 100 mile range at best

If Linus is considering a Plug-In Hybrid rather than a full electric car (and it looks like the wife is saying no to the superbike) I would look at the new Volvo S60 T8 Plug-In. It has great power at 400hp, 495 lb-ft torque and it seats 4 adults very comfortably. I've driven the new T6 (and freakin loved it) and I'm waiting on my local dealer to get a T8, but I've heard great things about the T8 and its' Polestar variant. Also I'm curious about whether or not cars region specific to dealers. In the US, you can only order the Honda Clarity in California and Oregon, and is unavailable throughout the rest of the US, so I wonder if Canada is the same with EVs?

Source 2: https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/apple-stock-price-share-trillion-dollar-latest-update-a8474726.html

  • Apple's Stocks app has mistakenly labelled its creator as the world's first trillion-dollar company.

  • Apple has been very close to becoming the world’s first Trillion dollar company for some time, but the company falsely claimed to have already broken the record because of a technical fault with the app built into the iPhone.

    • After it announcing earnings this week, Apple bought back some of its own shares.

    • Since there are now fewer shares, the stock price required to push through the record went up – from around $204 to $207.

    • But that update wasn't added to Apple's own Stocks app, so a small surge in Apple's shares showed the company as being worth $1 trillion – even though it wasn’t.

  • The share price data on the iPhone is provided by Yahoo Finance

  • BUT NOW IT IS WORTH $1Tn

I’ve always wondered why you include LTT forum as a source, when we always reference and quote another site anyway? A little bit slack.
