It's a good upper-midrange GPU, especially for 1080p

Performance is neck-and-neck with a GTX 1060 6GB for the 8GB variant, sometimes better in DX12.

The Workhorse (AMD-powered custom desktop)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | GPU: MSI X Trio GeForce RTX 2070S | RAM: XPG Spectrix D60G 32GB DDR4-3200 | Storage: 512GB XPG SX8200P + 2TB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda Compute | OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

The Portable Workstation (Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2021)

SoC: Apple M1 Max (8+2 core CPU w/ 32-core GPU) | RAM: 32GB unified LPDDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD | OS: macOS Monterey

The Communicator (Apple iPhone 13 Pro)

SoC: Apple A15 Bionic | RAM: 6GB LPDDR4X | Storage: 128GB internal w/ NVMe controller | Display: 6.1" 2532x1170 "Super Retina XDR" OLED with VRR at up to 120Hz | OS: iOS 15.1

I highly recommend the RX 580 8GB.

I can play all of my games at high/ultra settings at 2560x1080 and I do room scale VR like a champ with it.

As for people mentioning the comparison to the GTX 1060 6GB, they perform almost identically (within 5%) for almost every game.

Hardware Unboxed did a comparison video recently showcasing this and that you really should only pick between them solely on the price you can get them for.

That was about 2 years ago. So no, in 2018 that is not true. AMD drivers for GPU's are more than decent these days.

If they were crap, I wouldn't recommend the card.

I really enjoy Adrenaline and I love that I have a stable experience with Oculus VR.

NVIDIA gives me a similar experience on my laptop.

These stories about either party having unstable drivers are out of date IMO.
