Intel 9th gen unlock cpu specs leaked (updated)

The only reason they are contemplating this is because of TLBleed. They have no silicon fix yet on the table, and do not plan to fix it, so the cheapest path forward is to turn it off instead of fix it.

They can just leave it on and let the users decided what they want to do with it.

Interesting, but why would they not give the 9700k hyperthreading?

Wouldnt the 8700k with 6 cores, 12 threads be faster in some applications than an 8 core / 8 thread 9700k cpu? That would be strange.

In premiere where there is no bitrate limit

I mean, other video editing software which uses QS as a way to encode the video during export. There's a quality drop using older Intel HD graphics drivers (or the iGPU itself), but now, hard to tell.

isn't this just marketing and product segmentation?

This i7 is just an traditional i5 as in the past but they had to separate it from the i5 with just 6 cores.

The i9 is just the old traditional i7 with HP.

if this trend continues next time there will be a i11

So you're telling me the TDP for the 8 core 16 thread CPU at higher clocks is the same as the 6 core?

RIP

That's an F in the profile pic

RIP

At the "base" (3.6 GHz) clock, under an "Intel defined workload" ;).

Now intel is fufilling that role... even with the 8 cores to match. haha

agreed. make it a UEFI option... maybe off by default for security but user could opt to turn it on if they want more speed and dont care

Imagine that i7 with a 5ghz OC, it’ll shred ryzen 7 2700x

In what world?

Smt gives around 20 to 30% advantage over no smt on average. Imagine a 2700x with a 20 to 30% overclock over its 4.3GHz clock. Oh wait that gives a 5.1 to 5.5Ghz 2700x with 8 threads. That alone should make the slightly lower IPC.

Leave it on by default would be the better option because the consumers out there probably won't know how to enable it or they're too afraid to enter the bios. Those that run that specific program where HT has a security, they can enter the bios and disable it.

This is awesome but we know this is intel, they will never drive prices down.

The i7 9700k is a sweet part, which will cost 150-200$ more than i7 with 6c/12t, no way intel will drive prices down just because they a little competition.

The obvious thing to do is to price i7 9700k at the same price as i7 8700k HAHAHA in my dreams not going to happen unless they remove the useless iGPU they make you pay for.

Im standing this one out, until i see a new architecture from intel, and 8 core i7 priced correctly its a nay from me these parts will be insanely overpriced 9700k and 9900k.

Im waiting for Zen 2 2019 on 7nm, and new Intel parts on 10nm, thats when the upgrade window will open for me.

Seems like Intel really love being stupid jerks.

The 9700k seems to really be a 8c8t CPU, only intel think its OK to sell a i7 class CPU with out HT that is on the die.

so.....unless its priced lower than the 8700k, there is no point to this processor. Best case scenario in multi-threaded is its going to be roughly the same. Worst cause its going to be about 2 threads worse.

.......why? I don't understand. Is this going to be the first time that Intel releases a cpu that is worse than the one it replaces? I can't seem to recall any others....

I think it will be slightly better but 4 less threads sucks, it just feels shitty that they purposely lock out features.

Well it is 4.6ghz with 6 threads fired up, so it is going to be a LITTLE faster in multi-threaded per core, which is why I said 2 less threads as the clockspeed may(or may not) make up the difference.

Up until now i7 meant hyperthreading though. At least in the desktop space. Did they really bin enough chips with all 8 cores intact but damaged HT sections to warrant such a sku?

I think i see the reason why intel did this. The i7 isn't the top end cpu anymore, it got replaced with the i9.

First the introduced i9 to HEDT but slapped the X suffix in the entry level 10 core so then they needed to add XE to the top 18 core cpu. Now apparently they are making i9 mainstream cpu because why not. And ofc why uphold the tradition of i7 with HT and i5 without it - lets change that too.

Oh and lets not forget the Kaby Lake X which should've been Skylake X upgrade but instead was this abomination that we've seen.

I swear they will need to make an i10 9990XE for the next top HEDT cpu xD

So many smart people work there and they cant come up with a comprehensive and neat naming structure for their products...

CPU: i7 6950X  |  Motherboard: Asus Rampage V ed. 10  |  RAM: 32 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum Special Edition 3200 MHz (CL14)  |  GPUs: 2x Asus GTX 1080ti SLI

Cooling: Custom LC 2 x 360mm EK Radiators | EK D5 Pump | EK 250 Reservoir | EK RVE10 Monoblock | EK GPU Blocks & Backplates | Alphacool Fittings & Connectors | Alphacool Glass Tubing

but why not classify the 8c8t part under the i5 stack? also would that mean their HEDTs would strictly be i9 stuff now, like what it was with i7 X99 and earlier

The hedt side does not have core i5 and they need a cpu people will buy, so i doubt they will cut out ht on their hedt core i7.

They seems to already have. X99's Broadwell e has turbo boost 3.0. X299's Core i7 doesn't, it went back to turbo boost 2.0, and turbo boost 3.0 went to their core i9.

...yet. I fully expect them to introduce "Extreme i5 Cpu" in the future xD

Also while they're at it why not make locked "k" cpus or unlocked non-k :-)
