As a Hyper 212 owner, I say don't.

But then again, if you're a PC builder and haven't used a Hyper 212, you're not a real PC builder.

So next up is visiting a metal 3D printing factory and just printing out a heatsink?

I cant help but beleve that your purposly being this bad.

Its a damn shame, there are some really cool cooling experiments and just ..ways to cool a CPU that can be done relativly easily, yet so far you shown us a very bad example of a AC chiller conversion, and these 'air coolers' that if looked at without any previous knowledge of how they were made or by who, you would think were built from design created by a 5 year old with crayons.

The only good one was Lukes oil submersion cooled PC.

@AlexTheGreatish Here's a thought experiement, the answer is somthing you could do as another PC cooling experiment.

What can you build using the following materials?

A ~120mm fan (blowimatron would work)

A water pump

A bucket

3m of ~5" diameter plastic pipe

~5" diameter plastic pipe y connector.

A shower head & tubing

CPU: Intel i7 3930k w/OC & EK Supremacy EVO Block | Motherboard: Asus P9x79 Pro  | RAM: G.Skill 4x4 1866 CL9 | PSU: Seasonic Platinum 1000w Corsair RM 750w Gold (2021)|

VDU: Panasonic 42" Plasma | GPU: Gigabyte 1080ti Gaming OC & Barrow Block (RIP)...GTX 980ti | Sound: Asus Xonar D2X - Z5500 -FiiO X3K DAP/DAC - ATH-M50S | Case: Phantek Enthoo Primo White |

Storage: Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD + WD Blue 1TB SSD | Cooling: XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res & Pump | 2x XSPC AX240 White Rads | NexXxos Monsta 80x240 Rad P/P | NF-A12x25 fans |

We actually have some not so sketchy plans right now, they just take time to create.  Also I guess you're basically asking for Top Gear challenges here, which I'm totally down for.

Looking forward to seeing them :D

Top gear challenges for PC cooling sounds like great idea imo. Wasnt what i was inplying, but still. Would certainly bring out some cool ideas im sure. Kinda like a mini scrapyard wars series kinda deal.

I think it's more like "We're going to try one idea out and film it, and if it goes all wrong then oh well, more entertainment value!"

We call it scrapyard wars and not Top Gear Challange to avoid copyright.

what about a solid metal block with drilled holes both and room for 2 small (<80mm) fans? how would that perform?

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

I just drew up a heatsink design I'd like to see LTT try out. It uses a copper wire mesh and aluminum bar to hold it together. The idea is the air would flow through the mesh. Not sure how well it would transfer heat. Perhaps you could remove one of the aluminum bar layers to add a heatpipe.

Sorry, but I went out of my way to avoid that thing, instead I got the Hyper 612 V2 instead, less possible CFM but I don't need high CFM :P Also took me less than the 9 minutes they mentioned to install...

You're more sensible than all of us combined, the Hyper 212 is literally the one cooler I would not recommend to anybody, the installation is bonkers. It took me 10-20 minutes because I could not figure out the mounting mechanism to save my life. :(

It doesn't take long to install it IMO.

Maybe after you know how to do it properly, but the first time you try to install it ( for me anyways ) is pretty hard

Well something with a sensible mount like a Noctua NH-U12 took me like 5 minutes to mount

Here's a not-inane idea for your guys.

The best heat sink is a huge chunk of metal. So how about figuring out a way to mount either a motherboard or a waterblock to an H cross-section metal beam? It would amount to drilling 4 holes in the beam and securing the board/block to it with nuts and bolts.

Well, okay, it would probably also take adding an aluminum or copper spacer to keep the beam interfering with RAM and/or PCIe slots (if it's a motherboard, not a waterblock you're mounting) and some scraping/polishing of paint or rust from the beam, but tthat's a low tech solution with a potential to be better than a store bought heat sink by virtue of fanlessness.
