For the first time since ivy bridge intel might be worth considering again (unless you delid and shit over the warranty it wouldnt matter)

Sandy Bridge.

Ivy Bridge was the one that wasn't soldered but nobody really complained about until haswell.

Well yeah i meant ivy bridge inclusive on the list of unsoldered cpu's. There were people complaining of Ivy Bridge, but they started pushing on the rant pedal on haswell when they changed arhitecture a bit and clockspeeds became much lower, people trying to push them as far as sandy/ivy found their temps trough the roof and investigated more, but i do remember watching youtube complaints about ivy.

Using thermal grease between the die and IHS was done as early as Core 2 Conroe.

However note that not all CPUs were using thermal grease:

Yes but that's exactly the point or how it is done right.

The low end 4k Series was not soldered, the higher end 6k Series was though. And that is the point!

There are Chips where it is OK to not solder them, there are Chips that have to be soldered.

How about the (initial) Price those CPUs sold for?!

Lets take the E4400:

https://geizhals.eu/?phist=248680
Starting at 140 dropping to around 110€ by Independence Day 2007.

Lets look at the E6600:

https://geizhals.eu/?phist=209546

Starting at 325€, by July 2007 still around 200€.

Q6600:

https://geizhals.de/?phist=217708

Starting at 827€, dropped to around 250€ by July/August 2007.

100€ CPU: OK if not soldered

300€ CPU: Not OK if not soldered

2000€ CPU: Absolutely not OK to not being soldered.

Easy as that.

I'm not excited about this personally.  I'd hoped they could solve their thermals with an architecture update, but I guess not.  Soldering on an IHS is going to add some real cost overhead.  Keep in mind that it's not just the materials that will need to change.  They'll have to change the machinery and retrain employees.  It's not like you just swap out the TIM for solder and everything works fine.  I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation has an extra $10-$15 tacked onto it.

To be fair, it doesn't take much with those games.  An AMD FX system with a 600 series GeForce (or equivalent Radeon) could probably keep those same framerates.

Idk I don't play esport games anymore, so I'm just saying it as I see it.

I also watched my friend play FC5 on it earlier this week and he'd typically sustain 30+ FPS over what I used to get on average. We have the same GPU (though his is an Aorus 1080TI) and had the same resolution monitors until he bought the 240hz panel a couple months ago.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

I have been very tempted to post mine, but then I realised, The only people who need to see them are the ones that would just find another reason to disagree anyway.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
