cpu for gtx 1080

Hey guys,

I wanted to know wether i should use an i5 8400 or an i7 8700 for 1440p gaming with a gtx 1080 since the i7 8700 is 120 euros more expensive.

games liek battlefield 5

To play that in 1440p and 144hz you’il definetly need an i7 8700 because battlefield is pretty cpu heavy and playing at that resolution and refresh rate will push your gpu and in order for your gpu to perform well you want a good cpu.

PC specs:

I7 8700

1x 8gb Ballistix Elite 3200MHZ

MSI Gaming Trio RTX 2080

Using any chip that doesn't support OC will not be as good. Although most modern tiles can't really utilize benefits of having more multi-core performance, in terms of single core, the faster the better during heavy runtime loads. Where I would say an 8600k would be enough, but getting the better 8700k shouldn't be an issue if you've got the budget. You'll definitely see the difference with a powerful single-threaded performance naked eye in terms of just Gaming.

Then the i7 8700 is the best option. (i don’t like overclocking neither)

NO Definetly DON'T. That CPU is extremely expensive requires an expensive platform and sucks for gaming!

I'd recommend OC'ing the CPU if you want to target 144hz.

8700k or 8600k. But, If you really are afraid of the OC, id get a higher clocked locked CPU like an i5-8600 instead of an 8400, though the 8700 (locked) is still probably the way to go considering you want to play a new AAA game like BFV.

You can still game at 144hz avg with a locked cpu, but the OC will bring up your minimum frame rate and keep more consistently high FPS.

There are plenty of quick and easy OC presets on even midrange motherboards, or even auto OC utilities that can apply an overclock with just a few clicks.

Alternatively, it may be worth considering the "X" sku AMD cpus since they will auto OC (given adequate cooling) without you doing any bios manipulation at all.

Bottom line, especially in new AAA games (BF 5) at 1440p, even an i5-8400 is sufficient to be honest.

Me personally, id go 8700k @ 5GHz to get as close to 144Hz 24/7 as possible.

yea Y the hell do you need a new motherboard with every new generation of CPUs when you can just directly connect the micro-connections of the socket interface with some cheap wires by soldering each and every fin in?!
I was adviced this in a community called "High Pc Enthusiasts"
