This isn't a problem as I have a Mac. My system can run anything forever.

Dude use opera. It is built of chrome so app support is the same but is miles more efficient, looks better, has built in ad blocker, vpn, power saver, and has hand off support from mobile

I thought isolating different tabs from each other was one of the key features that set chrome apart back when they rolled out the beta 1000 years ago?  How is this different?

It's really extremely similar, you won't find it hard to switch at all.  It offers syncing of all your stuff, even across devices, the layout is similar, there's tons of extensions (probably more tbh, or at least more power user ones), the interface is more customizable, etc.  I would recommend it :)

To be fair, if this really does improve security, their priorities are in the right place.  Security should always trump features, particularly on something so outfacing like a browser

You clearly haven't used AutoCAD, SolidWorks or any sort of video rendering applications. They will rip through that PC and make it cry like a small child with a skinned knee.

Opera is really good. I've used it with sooo many tabs and no issues. Vivaldi is also good alternative.

In 2011 or so I switched to chrome because firefox had become a buggy mess what with their major update scheme every week they were doing. 

 

It might be time to switch back.

I don't get how some people are using up so much of their RAM with Chrome tabs...

The Chrome section on it's own is only using 3.1GB with 35 tabs open with 32 of them playing video simultaneously.

Been using Google Chrome for a few years and I haven't notice that it has been eating a big Byte of my ram xD . Anyways, I'm not sure if I can still change my browser, I'm so used to G Chrome. lol!

Man I really wish we fought harder for 16GB of RAM in our work laptops when we were refreshing them earlier this year. To still be stuck on 8GB is disgusting, and Chrome is the only "approved" browser for our company. I'm already at a typical usage of 7GB, and we still need to get our Microsoft Teams deployment (yay, more RAM-hungry, mostly useless stuff to run in the background!)

 

I wonder if they'll notice if I just slot some more RAM into my assigned laptop myself...

Two bad there isn't a Firefox or Opera phone OS. Ideally Linux but that's just dreaming. Fortunately i don't have to use Chrome.

I'm not terribly fond of Android myself, though there isn't really any alternative as Android easily allows excecution of unsigned code, which is kind of important if one's gaming is primarily via emulation (shyly raises hand). Further, I am fond of keeping a clean front screen (OCD-like), which from every iOS device I've seen, is seemingly littered with icons all over by comparison, though this is a minor point.

 

Thankfully however, there are no shortage of different browsers to use, for PC at least. I like Firefox on my PCs (sometimes Edge on my Atom device), though the Android version still has really terrible scrolling performance. For Android, I use the Samsung browser, not because I like it (because I kind of don't), but it is simply a lot faster and more responsive than anything else I've used on my phone, and nets better battery life in use than even Chrome.

 

PC's I can largely have everything I want on it. Mobile devices have always felt like I need to compromise somewhere...

Chrome tabs are laid out in seperate processes, but cross-site documents still open in the same process. This is an additional isolation feature that process isolates cross-site documents.

 

Say you are on this site and there's a hotlink to a facebook image, that image currently still opens in the same process since it's the same tab. A script could then abuse that to gain cross-site access between here and facebook.

 

This would process isolate that facebook image in it's own process node, hopefully preventing cross-site hooks from attacking anything in between. This was rolled out as an opt-in enterprise setting back in Chrome 63 but wasn't rolled out more widely because it has the potential to break a *LOT* of stuff on the web.

Two bad there isn't a Firefox or Opera phone OS. Ideally Linux but that's just dreaming. Fortunately i don't have to use Chrome.

There was a Firefox OS... it freaking died because web based OSes are aweful. Even if they had managed to get developers on board there straight up are a lot of things the OS simply could not do performantly. Even now with WebGL 2.0 there would be a lot of innefficiency with anything that needs highly performant code and shaders.

 

Android is Linux. Librem 5 OS is GNU/Linux. The whole reason Google is pushing to develop Zircon is because Linux is a *terrible* kernel for mobile development due to it's ABI instability.

I found Firefox is really good right now, especially with Chrome slowing down and taking more RAM. I am worried about the security though, I find that there are proxy issues on Firefox, any else run into these?
